Azulik - Tulum Trip Report - Part 5
Sunday May 06
Ahhh....what another beautiful morning!

We awoke with the sun, and decided to hit Azulik's south beach for a swim, as there are less rocks when entering the water. This used to be a c/o beach a few years ago, and since we were pretty much the only ones there, we decided to bring the old policy back! The morning was sunny and warm, and the ocean temperature was ideal. We laid out on the beach for a while, and headed out for breakfast. We decided to hit Tita Tulum, just down the beach road. Echhh! ....another bad cup of coffee! I see an opportunity here, folks, maybe for a retirement business! Tulum needs a custom coffee roaster!! Tita Tulum served us complimentary toast with Mayan meil (honey), and marmalade, along with granola and yogurt we had ordered.

The honey here is different than what we are used to in the USA. It is darker, and concentrated, almost earthy. We both had to have our favorite, Huevos Moltulenos, of coarse!

On a scale of 10, it was a 5....a little flat and maybe too basic.
The grounds of Tita Tulum are very nice, and the way the restaurant is situated outdoors makes for a very relaxing atmosphere.

The view from your table outside is awesome here.

We took a walk to the beach, and met a pleasant woman whom we had asked to take our picture.

We exchanged a lot of travel tips for the area. We headed back to Zahra's gift shop to pick up some items to take home. My wife found a very nice iron and stone sun decoration for my daughter's room for $20 USD, that proved to be a problem at the airport.

I also had to stock up on the "Copal" incense to take home...it's very addicting....very unusually scented.
We headed to town to stop and visit the church, hoping to catch mass. We parked and walked around in the local's 'hood, looking for a place to buy a candle for church. The church is very simple, but a very peaceful sanctuary.

We did end up finding a store that sold candles fo 12 cents, and we put it on the offering table.

We spent the day back on the beach for hours, swam in the sea, and ordered a light snack of beer and ceviche from Juan Carlos, my kind of Sunday!
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x216/TheWindyCity/100_2762.jpg
We also saw iguanas busy running in and out of their nest inside the rocks.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x216/TheWindyCity/100_2742.jpg
We retreated to our villa, and enjoyed a soak in the deck tub, later napping on the deck bed...ahhh...la vida dulce!
For dinner, we made an unexpected great choice of going to Los Lirios, down the beach road.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x216/TheWindyCity/IMGP1208.jpg
They offer a wide choice of regional dishes and drinks. Alice had the Chac Mool drink...sorry I can't remember the ingredients, and I had the Especial Corales, which was Xtabentun, rum, pineapple and orange juices on the rocks...very good! We started our meal with the Sopa de Maiz y Huitecoche (corn soup with corn fungus.....mmmmm corn fungus!)
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x216/TheWindyCity/IMGP1211.jpg
It was excellent! The Huitecoche has a flavor of mole' .We then had the mariscos platter for two (80USD). It was excellent and fresh, not to mention a masterpiece of construction.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x216/TheWindyCity/IMGP1218.jpg
We just sat there looking at this magnificent assemblage of a seafood concoction, not wanting to ruin it!. Decorated with real starfish and shells...a sight to behold! No room whatsoever for dessert.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x216/TheWindyCity/IMGP1213.jpg
We once again retreated to our villa to have a soak under a sky saturated with stars. It was a clear night, and the moon wasn't due for another hour. It is amazing to see so many stars over the Caribbean. We waited for the moon to rise up out of the sea. What a sight to behold, as the deep orange orb slowly starts its ascent and the stars begin to disappear!
