We left our stuff on the beach bed, and went back to the room to change and get our gear. We donned our diveskins:

(these photos were taken with a disposable camera…sorry for the quality) and walked through HBR to get to the opposite end and the beach gate to EDSS. Man, did we get the looks.....talk about standing out in a nudist resort! And the stares kept up even as we crossed EDSS. Before we passed through the gate, I had been telling The wife that because HBR is small, the staff really do keep track of if you belong there or not by remembering you. I had read a report about a guest that had an issue getting back in when the beach guard changed shifts...they had to go back in through reception. As we passed the guard in our diveskins....The wife coyly asked the guard, "Are you SURE that you'll remember us when we come back?" The lady cracks me up!

We entered the water from the pier at EDSS, but again were pretty disappointed in the snorkeling. There were a lot of fish...I think they are fed and hang around looking for handouts, but the water was shallow, rough and the current kept trying to pull us away from our entry point. We decided to call it a day and head back...and chill on the beach until massage time.

At 11:30, two masseuses (or is it massice?) appear at the massage palapa. When I booked, they had asked whether I wanted beach or palapa...I had said beach, but at this time of day, the sun was already intense, so the palapa looked like a better option. It was agreeable to switch, so we did. Now, for reasons that will become clear in a minute, I need to tell you where the massage palapa is. It was just across the little swim-up river in the grassy frontage of the north wing of the hotel. It was behind the recreation hut, which screened it from the main pool, but it was on the walkway to the pool/bar area. The only more public area might have been getting a massage on the pool bar itself.

Also, when I booked, I had requested Mario (he was the guy who gave us the “teaser” massages on the beach), but they said he was not available and we would have "two women"...OK...We didn't get two women, but rather Enrique and Angela. Angela was a very pleasant short plump lady in her early thirties...Enrique was a tall, handsome Mexican stud. Guess which one the wife got? ...Not that I would have wanted it any other way....and it WAS her birthday....I knew going in...but I KNEW it for sure now, that this was NOT going to be the kind of "couples" massage that we had had before.

So there I was...laying face down on the massage table, with Angela starting on my back....contented oohs and ahhs coming from the table to my left....and it occurs to me that I've booked a full body massage and I am, at some point, going to have to roll over onto my back....and at a nude resort they don't bother with that whole "cover you with a sheet" deal.

One of the most FAQ’s about nude resorts relates to men's fears of getting an embarassing erection. The answer, and this is consistent with my experience, is that it almost never happens....or, if on rare occasion it does, it is easily addressed with a towel or dip in the pool. I'm thinking a dash to the pool is not going to be one of my discreet options. It's going to have to be mind over matter....

I resorted to the technique of thinking about something else..in this case vegetables. I made it....but I am so grateful that they opened a new grocery store this winter in our home town that has an expanded produce section. I cannot say that it was one of the more relaxing massages I've ever had. No fault of poor Angela...I only blame myself....and those soft cooing sounds I kept hearing from the next table.

But...I gotta look on the bright side... I might have gotten Enrique.....

After the mega massage....The wife staggers back to the beach bed....and nods off with a big smile on her face...It looks like I'll be on my own for a while.

To be continued…
