View Full Version : Azulik Photos?

My wife and I have never been to Mexico, but I am looking into a future vacation spot somewhere in the Cancun area. Ideally, I would like a small cabana on the beach where we could sunbathe and swim nude. I have no interest in nudist resorts, "lifestyles", or the party life. Just a place where we can relax, hang out, and enjoy the scenery.

I recently found a place in Tulum called Azulik which sounds close to my ideal getaway. But, I'm curious how close the various cabanas are to each other. I don't really want to be staring at the cabana next door, or have them staring at us. I'm also curious whether the "clothing optional" policy means we can walk directly down to the beach (unclothed) from the cabana, or if we would have to dress to get from here to there.

I've read lots of comments about Azulik here, and on TripAdvisor, and the "Clothing Optional" part seems to be kind of rare. I don't really want to be the only naked guy on the beach! Any real life experiences from folks who have stayed there?

Anyway, I've looked at all the pictures on the Azulik web site, but I'm curious if folks here have any personal photo's of Azulik they could share?

Also, are there any similar accomodations within an hour or two of Cancun that you might recommend (fairly rustic, clothing optional, quiet, romantic)?

Thanks,

Anthony

Like you - never been to Mexico -or even outside europe but we have booked for 2 weeks late this year at Cabanas Copal which is next to Azulik (same owners?)
We want to be clothing optional too but NOT swingers !!
Just want to be able to swim/sunbathe/ relax etc. naked. This is quite normal for us in many european areas.
Atfer looking at their web site, we emailed Copal with various questions and are assured it is clothing optional around the cabanas, from the cabanas to the beach, on the beach, around the terrace and pool and beach bar - so we are now really looking forward to going.

Could keep you posted

KayseeukYou can consider Tulum beach, in general, to be clothing optional.

you might want to check out accomodations on Soliman Bay in Tankah, just 5 minutes north of Tulum. Very secluded area

Sounds to me like you pretty much got the right area for what you are looking for. :) :D

I was at both Azulik and Copal in May 2004. I would say that at least 50% of the people were taking part in the nude sunbathing on the beach. The cabanas at Azulik are quite close to each other. In fact, I was a bit uncomfortable when my boyfriend and I were sitting on our porch and the couple next to us were nude and taking photographs of each other. I would say they were 12 feet away. Azulik should plant some vegitation between the cabanas! You really can't stay at Azulik and walk nude over to the beach at Copal (Azulik has no beach), since you have to walk through the jungle and past the sweat lodge and some other facilities. If you stay at Copal, you can definitely walk from your cabana to the beach nude. If I remember correctly, Copal has one or two luxury cabanas that were nestled right next to the Azulik cabanas and looked just like the Azulik cabanas. From those, you can walk directly to the beach. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the information. Will be at Copal in around three weeks time (can't wait) How long were you there? weather etc.?
Glad to hear about others being clothing optional - so we won't be the only ones !!
How about snorkelling at Copal? and would really like to try scuba but would need to take the open water course cos I'm a beginner. Anyone any advice as to the best (or nearest) padi centre?

And anyone else there around end Novemeber?

We stayed three days at Copal in an oceanfront king and five days at Azulik. There was a constant, and I mean absolutely constant, wind (Tulum is in the path of the trade winds) of probably 20-25 mph, which made it extremely comfortable on the beach even though it was 95 degrees every day. Once you got into town, or even 100 yards inland for that matter, it got hot and sticky. It got down to 85 or so at night. We were there in May which is a hotter time than November.

I recommend Que Fresco restaurant down the street. It was a fun atmosphere. In retrospect, we went into Tulum Pueblo too much looking for different restaurants, etc. We are going again next May and I will not do that. I will stick to the places along the beach. We also enjoyed the restaurant at La Vita e Bella, which is north of Copal right on the beach. A very lovely restaurant!

Regarding snorkeling, I have heard that the surf is too rough right around Copal. You can hire a boat to take you out the reef and someone told me it is calm there, but I can't vouch for that. If you go up towards the Soliman Bay area (north of Tulum) you can snorkel right from the beach since it is a protected cove area.

You will feel absolutely comfortable at Copal. We are staying at Cabanas la Conchita next May since I wanted to try something different.

Have a great time!
