Any info on Posada Margherita will be appreciated. Is the beach area co or topless? Please rate the accomodations. Also any recommendations on other off the beaten path (playa) accomodations around Tulum? Thanks!

This is an excellent resort, it is run by some very nice Italians and the restaurant is outstanding, the rooms are roomy , neat, clean and the staff is super friendly. As for the beach it is heavily topless, I have seen a few people clothing optional, we have stayed here, Ana Y Jose, and Nueva Vida and all have been excellent, my wife and I walk the beaches for hours and she has been topless all the time and has never had a problem, actually she does not even own a top, she carries a small T shirt in case we want to pop into a resort for a drink or a small bite to eat. And yes we are from the US Jersey in fact.

Thanks for the info Petecat. Sounds like the type of place for us. We were also considering Ana y Jose.

I have not stayed there yet, but have eaten there every time we go to Tulum except the last time this month. We were only there for 3 days and did not bother to make reservations and could not get in the night we tried. They try and limit their covers to only 70 guests so they can keep their sanity and keep doing a great job. It is a great place for dinner

Doesn't own a top? Never seen anything like that when I've been in Jersey. Doesn't she get cold in winter?

We stayed at Retiro Maya, near Posada Margherita, and ate many meals at PM. The food is excellent -- the best dishes are Taglierini with various kinds of seafood. Breakfast also excellent. Every cup of coffee is made fresh. It's so popular you will need reservations for dinner. The beach in front of Posada Margherita was narrow when we were there in March 2005, but I'm told it comes and goes. In any case, there is a sandy terrace in front of the restaurant that is like a part of the beach that has palapas and lounge chairs. When we were there, there were a few topless women; just south of PM the beach gets wider and less populated, and there is more topless and nude use.

Ana y Jose also has an excellent restaurant, a small pool, a spa, and a much wider beach than Posada Margherita. Either place would be great.

fnarf999, no she does not own a swimsuit top, and there are beaches in NJ and Long Island where it is perfectly fine to be topless, but in the winter she is fine, she has me to keep her warm! 2 days to go! ( yes we do have alot of peeping tom neighbors around our neighborhood when she is at our pool).

Thanks for the useful info. We plan on making plans for a mid June trip soon. Hopefully it willl not be too hot then. My wife also hates to wear a top on the beach and we typically search out beaches that allow toplessness. We are from NC and also like St. Martin and the beaches of the Outer Banks of NC.
