Day 7

Up again with the sun!! We take a much longer walk this morning, as we were in the car so much yesterday & our beach time was pretty nill - I love walking the beach - I could walk forever I think - only problem with that is there would not be any time to walk back. We went to Los Lirios for their breakfast buffet. It was pretty good, but a bit pricey - $13.00 each - but we were starved, so got our fill. Our plans were to take a snack today & head south for the day to our wonderful Playa! We had a great time of jumping in the ocean (one of my favorites is to float on the waves) & sitting on the beach reading - no one in site - soooooooooo awesome! We opened a bottle of red wine, drank from the bottle bohemian style, had our pretzels, jerky & cookies - Can you ask for anything more??

We walked back & all we could think of were the wonderful french fries we had last night - so we continued on to Arrecifes & had a plateful - we also tried to order Tequila Sunrise's, but ended up with straight shots of tequila - oh well, salt, down the hatch & lime - After all this, we were not really hungry for supper, so sat on patio, (my husband sitting, me in my hammock)(I wasn't very good at sharing) reading our books. Later, we ordered from the restaurant at Cabanas Tulum & discovered they would bring it to your room. Room Service!!!! Why did we not think of this sooner?? Our patio was a much more pleasant place to eat our meal. (Cabanas Tulum's restaurant is located between the bungalows & the road)
I have to say here though, is there is a bug that bites, it finds me - no matter where I go!! I had taken bug spray ( just an aside - Cutters has one with that has Autan in it & not deet - It really worked well for me, & the smell is not as offensive as deet) but I had not put it on & some bug hit me up 4 times in minutes. http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/11.gif So we retired inside, read & again fell asleep to the lulling waves of the ocean.

Day 8

Again, wake up to the sun - I can not believe how every sunrise is a new experience - I think being in a place like this makes you aware how every day is new & exciting & this world is a good place to live in! You just have to look a little harder for the good some days more than others. We take our usual walk, going to Tita Tulum for breakfast - we have decided this is our most favorite spot for breakfast & talk seriously about staying at Tita our next trip to Tulum. We are already sure we are returning for another stay - this place is finding its way into our hearts & minds - such peace. After breakfast we return to our room, and spend the day on our beach there - 1st time since our first day - and just lazy around. We ordered french fries from our restaurant - not as good, but hey, I never bumped into a french fry I did not like.http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/04.gif Mostly read, walked, swam the day away. We ordered "room service" again & had appetizers for dinner - Chips, guac, beans, quesadillas, & queso - we really like the appetizers in Mexico!
Finally retire for evening, really bumming as we know tomorrow is our last full day of vacation - tears - but found sleep listening to those pounding waves.

Day 9

Up at dawn - really early this day - have to wait for the show!! We took a long walk again & tried to decide what to do our last full day - We decided to go to Tita Tulum for breakfast again & walk to our private playa an hour south again - Alas, I have discovered you cannot duplicate those wonderful moments by just wishing it. They just happen - Today everyone was out walking - I guess because it was Sunday, cooler weather, but I swear it seemed like we were at Grand Central Station today!! I am exaggerating - but the peace of our beach had been compromised. We stayed, as even under the circumstances, we were in a very beautiful place. Walked back to our cabanas rather slowly to savor our last long trek along the beach.

For our last evening, we were going to try to walk down to Tita Tulum for dinner, as we had only had breakfast there, but thought maybe it was too far in the dark. I also wanted to stop at Los Lirios for happy hour and have some more of my favorite sangia - YUMMMMMMMMMMMY!! We also asked for some salsa & chips ( our favorite) and sat & relished our drinks & salsa. After, we decide we want to return to Arrecifes for dinner & order the same thing we had last time - steak & steak tacos. Well, the chef must have been different than our other cook the other night - still delicious - but not the same - I guess you get what they have on handhttp://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/09.gif We walked back to our room along the beach - I am thinking our next trip should be planned over a full moon, as I can imagine how beautiful it must be. The stars are so numerous it looks as though they touch each other!
Again, & for the last night we fall asleep to the thunder of crashing waves.

Day 10

Up even earlier - all I can think of is we are leaving. Take a long walk on the beach, return to the room & pack while waiting to go to breakfast. Packing almost all done, we go one last time to Tita Tulum for our last breakfast. I really hate using this word "LAST" - YUCK!! Perk up says the DH - remember we are coming back! We have a wonderful breakfast, stall, have 4 cups of coffee. Take in all the views & ambiance to draw on in the days, weeks, months to come.

All packed waiting for transportation to show up - of course - 15 minutes late - Senor was just on the phone calling them when they showed up - I thanked him, gave him a hug & he smiles & says "Mexican time" & we were off.

What an amazing report Minnie..so worth waiting for! I was glued to every word, felt like I was right there with you..well almost..mostly I was just wishing I was..lol..especially when you were assisting the little tortuga. Just unbelievable how intense their instinct to go toward the moonlight is. Those little guys are swimming free now thanks to good people who helped them get to where they needed to be! Can you imagine the confusion the little tortugas that hatch out around those glitzy, big lit places are? Nice to know that the locals around Cabanas Tulum are working to help the babies too!

Good for your husband for sticking to his guns with the Buster car guy. It might be Mexico time, but it is just rude to keep somebody waiting for 3 hrs. and then try to charge them for a mud covered car! A couple of kids in town washed mine for me for $10 pesos each when I came back from Xcalak a last year. The beachroad there is equal or worse to the Boca Paila Rd..or it was at that time. Worth it, it spared me the Buster guy pointing out the dirty car I guess.

Nice to know you got a friendly and helpful guy at the gas station..was that the one on the same side of the road as San Fransisco Grocery? I always use the one by the ruins on the other side..everyone called it the "new" Pemex..lol....they have never shorted or tried to scam me, but they are not the most friendly either.

Glad to know you enjoyed Cabanas Tulum..I don't mind the bare bones of the place, the food is excellent and I just can't get enough of that awesome stretch of beach..good to know you liked it too! I will have to try Tita Tulum's restaurant for breakfast!

Start planning that next visit..it helps to keep the post Tulum depression at bay..it's hard to come home after you have been to paradise.

Thanks again for a great report..well worth the wait!

Seems like we are attracted to the same spots doesn't it? I am an Aquarius (no wonder I love water:D) do we have that in common?? Husband is a Virgo though -

Minnie..I am a Cappie..but I have never acted like a Cappie..lol. I sometimes wonder if my date of birth is right..lol! I am much more similar to a Pisces..which explains my love of laid back places and being close to the water I think!:D

If I was putting together my dream vacation..it would be what you describe..my favorite places are Tulum, Xpuha and Akumal! Mahahual and Xcalak too, but since I don't like to drive long distances, I rank those 4th and 5th..although the Costa Maya is just as stunning, serene and paradise like as the first 3, but different..part of the reason I love the entire Caribbean coast of Mexico..every place is a bit different but everywhere is enjoyable and special!

Minniemex,

Thanks for the trip report! I didn't realize we were in Tulum during the same week. We may have even been in the Copal restaurant the same morning. :)

Oh, and if you saw a naked fat guy frolicking in the ocean out in front of Azulik, that was probably me. Sorry... :)

Gale - What is the water like down by Mahahual and Xcalak? I always thought it looked a little to turtle grass & shallow for me?

Great report!! We are looking into staying at Cabanas Tulum and it sounds like you enjoyed your time there. Your info will definetly help make our decision between there and Zazil kin as those are the two within our budget and have want we need in a room. Can't wait to see if you have more pics as makes the countdown alittle easier:)

Great report Minnie,

I especially like this installment. We too just "popped in" to Tita for breakfast on our trip, and that was all I needed to decide that we would stay there our next time in Tulum. I look forward to their breakfasts, and not having to walk 5 km to get to the restaurant.

It is tough leaving a slice of paradise like Tulum. I am happy that I have finally crossed the "half-way point". By this I mean it has been longer than 6 months since we last left Tulum, and that means less than 6 months now until we return! Woo-hoo! :D

Thanks for the report,

Dan
