:wave:I got an email yesterday from the owner of Cuzans Guest house, and she has published a new book that looks FABULOUS! I can't wait to get up to Punta Allen and get my copy, but looks like you can order it on line as well.......
The Painted Fish and other Mayan Feasts, by Sonja Lillvic
Sonja has been living in Mexico married to a very colorful Mexican for close to 25 years, so I can only imagine the stories she has to tell about the old days....They are both legendary Punta Aliens!
She says she learned so much about the culture through her first job here, cooking in a restaurant. I can SO relate! I am so grateful for the things I've learned from the people I spent time with in the kitchens at Xamach!
Here is the link to the website to order it. The cover is very colorful and worth the purchase price alone!

Mine was waiting for me when I got home, what a great cookbook! Very professionally laid out, great photos, really nice. I was expecting something more homemade, like one of those church lady cookbooks, but this is really slick (in a good way).
I'm going to try the painted fish sometime soon. :tropicalfish: And then I need to read some more of the stories. How funny that she started out at the late, lamented Kailuum, my favorite place in the world!

Thanks for sharing this Margo! We do a lot of cooking as well now when we were there at the casa and I just ordered this book, too! We took a much too quick day trip to Punta Allen in December and it just made me want to go back again, loved it there!
