Finally bought plane tickets today. Got a great deal I think and went for it.
We leave Feb 21 and will be staying At Playa Mambo in the Penthouse for the first 6 days. We have 4 more days to figure out but considering a trip to Merida or something as we've never been..As some of you know we had to cancel last winter so we are psyched now..!

Good news! I WISH i could be like you guys and plan part of the trip as to where we will stay, and then the other part just walk up to places and get the deal of the trip ..Enjoy your vacation !!! . We did get a good price on a casita ( in Soliman Bay last spring) (April/May) and did a walk up, but we did have a back up in case we could not get a better rate. I am a planner. Dave (todobien) :always goes with the flow..His take is : It is all TODO BIEN (thus his log on to the tululm forum :).) He always tells me that when you go to sleep, no matter where you are in Tulum...you wake up to paradise. :)

I think pretty much every time we've gone we've ended up having to improvise a little for one reason or another. I'm a planner too but I don't mind surprises.
(as long as their pleasant ones!) I'm very excited about that lovely deck at Playa Mambo though..it looks so idyllic in the photos!

Yay! Long overdue, for sure. I'm so glad you guys are getting back down, and I love the idea of heading up to Merida for the end of the trip, I think you'll really like it. And how handy to have Lazydog doing exactly the same trip ahead of you!

:wave:Sounds like we need a meet up!!!! Yu HUUUUU!
If I do my calculations right, you'll be in Merida for Saturday Night! Highly recommended, they close all the streets in the main part of town and set up all kinds of different music. Some sit down and enjoy music, as well as lots of Shake your BOOOTIE kind of music...goes on until the wee hours of the morning....(so be careful where you stay...) then they leave the streets closed on Sunday for walking and more performances and booths of food and handcrafts in the zocolo....love Merida!:D

{Psst: I think that Penthouse deck at Playa Mambo would be an awesome place for a private massage!}

Hey Thanks Everyone!
It'd been so long since I posted on the forum that I forgot about the thing of not getting notifications for all replies..Anyway, we are SO excited my only thing is I wish we were going to be there for about 3 weeks! Yes BR that does look like a perfect spot for a massage. I had a massage last time we were there on the rooftop at Casa Magna. That spot was so beautiful it seems like I dreamed it. (I think there's a photo in my last trip report that's how I know it was real!)
Still trying to decide about the Merida thing. I know how I get once I'm in Tulum..it might be tough to tear me away!
Anyway I thought no one had responded and I was feeling a little neglected:o. Then I was going through trip reports like I do when temps become sub zero and there you all were..
Hey is Pierre still around? We have to start planning the coffee thing early.
Phyllis, do you still live around the corner from us?

Oh, no way would you be neglected around here. You know how everyone likes to chime in!
We actually moved (took advantage of the whole tax rebate thing) to the Merriam Park area. It's more convenient for us over here. We love it! Just moved in a couple of months ago.
I think Pierre moved his business, but there's a coffee thread over in the FAQ section that has some updated info on where to get good coffee.
Brrrrr, it's cold out! Tulum seems like a dream!

Hey Mariposa, we just got back from our Playa Mambo penthouse and Merida trip and I will be posting a trip report soon, just have to upload the photos.
We liked Merida, we went for the Saturday night music and Sunday market. We really enjoyed it, although we really enjoyed Valladolid also and it's closer and easier to drive in and out of. We only went for 8 days and it did seem a bit much to do Tulum and Merida, would I have changed my trip to not include Merida? No way. I always have to see something new on my trip. By the way Tulum is still just as gorgeous and relaxing as it always has been!

Phyllis, Merriam Park is great! Kind of like Mounds Park in a way. My Grandma lived there and so I kind of grew up in that neighborhood..
Lazydog! I can't wait to read you report! Especially can't wait to hear what you thought of the Penthouse..
