Hello everyone.

My wife and I are currently living in Mérida, originally from Iowa. We've been asked to move over to Tulum to do some volunteer work. It's been a little frustrating searching the net to find a place to live that's within our meager budget. I'm not even sure it's going to be possible.

We would like to find a casita or apartment for rent for $250 per month or less (I sense a lot of snickering and eye rolling) :). It doesn't even have to be right in Tulum, the surrounding communities are just fine with us. It can be small (real small is fine).

If anyone is aware of anything in the area for rent, we would be eternally grateful for the info. I know this is a tough time of the year to find a rental over there, but I thought it was worth a shot.

Your hopefully soon-to-be new neighbors...

Welcome signamigo!

The forum is more directed to vacation properties as I am sure you are aware. We do however, have a few people who post here from down there. Hopefully someone will be able to recommend a property for you.

Oh, and you might want to edit your email addy to spell it out so it doesn't get picked up by the spammers! (phillip at signamigo dot com)

You might consider staying somewhere for a week like Rancho Tranquilo (I don't like it, but some do) or Posada Addy and then look for a place. I have a place in Villas Tulum that is probably 500 sq feet and rents for 400/month plus you pay utilities. It's already rented, so I am not offering it. I am just giving you an idea of what to expect. I know that most places in my 'hood are advertised for 600/month same exact model as mine. There is another neighborhood that is a little older on the east side of Tulum called Los Hurricanes. You may be able to find something in there for rent. 250/month is pretty tight. It is a pretty popular destination. You might find it easier to be in the area and find places that are advertised by for rent signs. If you find something for 250/month let me know so I can pack my bags and move down with you!! I am neat and tidy, my cooking is hit or miss. Good luck and great job on the volunteering! Love it.
