Hi all,
I've been reading posts and getting SO much valuable information so thank you in advance!! We are planning our first trip to Tulum for March and I have a few questions to calm my mind before making reservations--

1: we're planning to go in mid-March. Will it be crazy windy?? I really want to chill at the beach, not be forced off the beach because of the wind.

2: We're planning to stay at Ocho. I have not seen many recent reports from people staying there (though maybe didn't search well). Tripadvisor folks seem to LOVE it, but any thoughts or honest opinions about Ocho would be welcome.

3: Are Mexicana prices too good to be true? It is like $140 cheaper for us to fly Mexicana nonstop Dulles-Cancun, but I fear it is because Mexicana is really crappy. Any views??

Thank you all -- your pictures and stories have inspired us in planning this trip!

Smiling at the thought that you said "last-minute" advice when your trip isn't until March! :)

Go for the Mexicana flight. $140 will buy you a lot of beverages on your vacation! It's only a few hours, so how bad could it be?

Ocho is a lovely place with a great restaurant, nice people and a large stretch of beach. Most of us haven't stayed there simply because the rates are kind of high compared to other places, and it's still pretty new. Nice rooms, though, I've seen them. Very clean, contemporary design, and because it's new, I think the beds will be very comfortable (unlike traditional Mexican hotel beds, which can feel like sleeping on the floor).

Which room did you get?

It's also in a good location for other restaurants nearby (Om, Casa Violeta, La Zebra, et al).

Talk about last minute - that's my screen name, because we have planned our last two trips with about 3 weeks notice!

We LOVE Mexicana! Have used it both trips! They are very friendly, easy going, and none of those goofy restrictions the US airlines have now. We (could have) checked up to two bags each free, free movies (in English and Spanish), free full meal (enchiladas) and - OPEN (free) bar!!!! OMG! Both trips were relatively on time - about 1/2 hour late taking off, but time made up in the air. I can't say enough about them!

Have a wonderful trip!

Welcome to the forum!! You are going to love Tulum!

Weather is such an iffy thing to predict. I have only had the wind so strong to keep me from the beach once. When that happens, you just find a different beach. The north area of the beach can be less windy or you can drive to Akumal which is more protected.

I have never flown on Mexicana but have heard only good things about them.

Never stayed at Ocho but have eaten there and enjoyed it.

Welcome to TI! We have used Mexicana on our two trips to the Pacific side, and we were pleased with all aspects of their service.
Have a wonderful trip.
Oh ~ in February we had a very windy trip ~ at times. If you lay low on the beach, it is still fabulous! and when you get up there is that cooling 'breeze' :fan: It's all good. :eat-drink:

Happy days - T.

Thank you all! This is "last minute" as in, before making air and hotel reservations. We will take another look at Mexicana now -- many thanks!
