How's that for a title?
Thanks to everyone for the great advice on car rentals. I've started pricing them (wowsa...spendy for 9 days!!!!) Nearly $700 for a midsized with full insurance...can that be right???
I'd love to save a few bucks but am somewhat limited by my husbands stature...he is 6'7" and I don't think he is going to fit into what I saw someone refer to as a "coffin on wheels." There is not enough anxiety medication in this world that would allow me to cruise stress free in one of those anyway!!!
What are we looking at for this tall guy??? I just don't want to see him driving with his knees up by his ears! :D BTW...most likely renting from Easyway or Continental.
Thanks!

I just went back to the Easyway site and plugged my info in again. Not sure which car I selected the first time, but this time I chose a Dodge Attitude and the total with insurance was around $480. That sounds wayyy more reasonable!
Do you think an Attitude would have enough leg room?
Oh and a quick side question, so when they say "we offer CDW, TP, ALI and PAI for $" do you just check that box? It looks like they cut you a break this way...what is your opinion?

I am 6'4'' and have no problem in the small Tsuru. We always rent from Easyway, and I would guess the price to be closer to $375 for 9 days. AAA will get you a 10% discount, and an additional 5% discount if you pay cash.

Yes - My hubby is 6'3" and all leg mind you and he fit even in the VW Derby we got a couple of years ago. Now he didnt really like it, so this past year we got an SUV - nicer on the leg room. We just booked a Dodge Caliber for 15 days and it is $806...the Dodge Attitude was $560 I think for a manual for the 15 days all insurance...so look around. We us Carribean Car rental or you can google Cancunrentacar and they come up too. We have had fabulous service from them going on 4 years. My trip report explains the "Above & Beyond" service we got from this year...wont use anyone but them!
Good luck

Can't really help with the height thing (being 5'8" I'm more worried if I can see out the windshield :)), but I just went through the whole car rental business and got a great deal directly on Dollar's website. They had a choice called "lock low and go" where they get to pick the car for you, but you were guaranteed at least a mid-size automatic. We wound up with a full size which was great. When we added all the insurance and everything it wound up costing pretty much the exact same and a Nisan Tsuru would have been from Continental or Easy Way.
We were very happy with our experience.

Topshelf, just curious, how did you know which insurances to take? That's one problem I had when I looked at a chain site; I just didn't know which boxes to check so I checked them all, and that made the price almost double Continental's. So I'm assuming I checked too many boxes, but I didn't really understand what I was looking at.
Thanks.
P.S., sorry for the hijack, I'm only 5'4", so am happy with the Attitude-type cars. I'd think an Attitude might be a bit on the small side for a truly tall person, though. I think someone said the Tsuru is the same as an old Nissan Sentra body, if that helps you gauge things.

I'm 6'-4" and rented the VW Pointer station wagon last summer from Easyway. It had room to move back in the seat for me and was very comfortable. This year....in like 5 days...we are about ready to book the VW Sport Van. Quoted at $159.92usd + 10% tax for 8 days. That rate does not include any insurance.
Soooo hope that helps.

Hola, Craig!
OK, I gotta tell my easyway story. Years ago, (I think this was in 99) the first time I rented from them, my elderly Mom was arriving 2 days later. I mentioned this in the rental office and how I hated to drive back up to the airport to get her. The easyway rep volunteered someone to pick her up and deliver her in Akumal for gas money only! I think he overstepped his bounds as I saw some eyes roll when he said this. I was apprehensive but left her flight info.
She was arriving about 8:30pm. I called the office about that time to make sure someone was meeting her. The manager, Jose Maria, didn't act like he knew anything about it but he stepped up to the plate and said "No problem". He showed up with her about 10pm looking exhausted! He asked only for gas money and we gave him $30.00. I was thrilled that a company took such good care to assure my moms safe arrival. I have never used another rental company and I have been as impressed each time, as much as the first time!
If you want a real quote from Easyway, which I always recommend, email Jesus at easyway@easywayrentacar.com. Tell him your requirements and let him suggest a car. Get the 0 deductible ins and ask for your quote with all ins and taxex included. They offer a 5% discount if you pay cash, which I always do up front. Never a problem. Also a 10% discount if you mention you are and LG or Tulum info member. Andsometimes a better deal if you are a personal friend of mine:D. However, they don't know me by my board names!;)
I have been treated like royalty everytime I rent from them and I tip for their great services...like they gas up my car, I call when I'm lost, I am allowed to park my car in their PDC lot when I visit PDC without paying. Jesus, Jose Maria and Fernando are highly valued friends! And BTW, because I have used them so long and sing their praises, I get really really good deals. Like once I got a free car for a short 4 day visit.
It pays to pick a good company and stay with them!
