I read on the Casa Amor del Sol website that a new "mini mart" opened up near Casa Cenote at the beginning of August. Has anyone been in the area lately? Is it adjacent to the cenote or the hotel itself?

we were there last week and yes there is a minimart adjacent to the hotel directly across the street from the cenote

It's pretty tiny, but they seem to have packed it pretty well with useful stuff like sunblock and snorkels. There was a rack of used snorkel equipment, we never asked if that was for rent or for sale or for borrowing. The girl working there didn't seem to speak any English, if that matters.

He's kind of always had a gift shop there, it is just more stocked and stuff now, some cute clothes, and the reasong I was there........ear plugs.

Thanks for the info, everyone! It sounds like the shop hasn't changed things much around there--and that's a good thing, in my opinion.

:wave:I love the cenote, just discovered it really this year, but it is definitely on my must do list when I have visitors.
SOME people weenie out and just do the first part, but do go all the way back to the end for the best part. and there are some rocky places to rest back there.......
and bring some flip flops for getting through the iron shore on the ocean side, you can tuck them into your swim suit once you get out there.
Then, make sure you save time for one of Gary's famous magaritas and some food..........I think his steak is one of the best I've had in Mexico. Does good hamburgers too. He's from Texas, so go figure!
Don't forget to check out the pool, he dreamed it and then built it.
One big change is that they now have security at the road......where the road meets the beach. Just tell them you are going to Casa Cenote and they let you through.......not sure what that is about.

Yeah, I love that cenote and the way the expelled water forms all the little pools in the midst of the seawater on the other side of the hotel. Definitely looking forward to snorkeling there again!
As for the security, I read that Tankah now has guards on duty 24/7. Not sure what to make of that.

We land at CUN @ 12:30 next Thursday (the 20th) --- and we're staying in Puerto Aventuras for four nights. (I'll explain later.)
The two ladies 'hosting' the trip have never been south of Cancun. So in helping research 'what to do' this trip, I threw out the idea of going to Gary's BBQ --- along with the night tour of the ruins, turtle walk in Akumal, and snorkeling Yal Ku.
All in the group have agreed not to over-plan. We know what's available to us and will will take each day as it comes. So unfortunately, I can't tell you right now that we will definitely be there.
Guess I could text you to let you know the plan. Cool?

:wave:It is truly amazing to me, I've never been to the Sunday Texas BBQ at Casa Cenote.....Gary was one of the first locals I met here, good friends with Dan, been there countless times......but this will be a first! Won't be able to snorkle though......ruptured my ear drum........opps.
I'll pm you my numbers and look forward to seeing you chica!
Not sure if the night tour is going right now, I"ve been meaning to check, another thing I haven't done!

and then it filled up with sand..... wish I had a pic of his face that day he returned after Dean blew thru........ I know what word came out of his mouth .... it started with "M" and ended with "r"

The pool looked really cute. We wanted to try it out but figured it was really intended for guests. Maybe the sign saying so was a giveaway there.
Margolinda, a ruptured ear drum? Oh no!!! No small infection that. Was it from flying with a stuffy head cold? I'm so sorry, that's a drag. Hope you're feeling better.
