Hi everyone, last minute here again. just a quick update: we've booked 3 nights to start at Nueva Vida in Ola. Very excited! Now I'm sort of trying to plan the itinerary.

We have 8 nights and I want to do some snorkling in Akumal. My questions: should we go just for the day, or should we make it an overnight trip? If overnight, does anyone have any recommendations? I think we'd prefer to be on the main beach...

Also, we're definitely doing this trip on public transportation. We have no issue with using Ado, Mayab and/or taxis, and even walking/biking.

Also, we do not have snorkel gear, so we'll have to rent.

Any and all advice welcomed! You all have been so welcoming and informative!

Definitely just a day trip. It's so close, just a short ride (20 - 30 minutes?). You can rent equipment right at Akumal Bay at the dive shop next to the Lol-Ha restaurant. I saw a variety of creatures including turtles, swimming with them!

A day trip as Kenny suggested is the best way to go. It's so close.

Try and get there early if you want to snorkel in Yal Kul Lagoon, Akumal Bay, or Half Moon Bay. Akumal is way to crowded and over priced these days. Bring your own beverages. I think Lo Ha bar is charging $4 a beer now.

WOW! 4$!!! That is about the price you will pay for a sub par beer here in a Utah restaurant! What about LBV? We didn't go there last year but they have had a pretty good happy hour price in the past! I agree with the early snorkeling..just because the sea is more peaceful, and not that many people. We usually go during the low season so never have to worry about being in a crowded snorkeling area.

As far as an overnighter in Akumal about the only place may be Hotel Akumal Caribe just south of Lol-ha and sharing the same beach. The hotel has a pool and is decent. Other than that Vista Del Mar has a nice hotel on Half Moon Bay, a short distance north. Its as resonable as they come in the area on the beach and nice. Decent beds, fridges, coffeemakers etc. Liked it much.
