if you suddenly had a long labor day week-end off, and needed an in-expensive place from Akumal to Tulum to hang at, let's say Thursday nite the 3rd of Sept. thru Monday morning the 7th of Sept.

Of course, all of this hinges on decently priced airfare.......Always an interesting task in finding that!

Nueva Vida is great location, medium prices. It's on my list.

Casa Amor del Sol, a small (only two rooms for rent) bed&breakfast in Tankah, is offering a nice deal now through the middle of November. For 80 bucks a night, you get a very nice room (equipped with refrigerator/bar, TV, air conditioning, etc) and a full "gourmet" breakfast. The price includes taxes. The trip advisor ratings for this place are very good, and the website pictures make it look very inviting. The only drawback is that it's located on ironshore. It is, however, close to Cenote Manatee and a great stretch of ocean for snorkeling. Check out the website: http://casaamordelsol.com/index.php.

Book the airfare, you'll find a deal at the beach.

If you want to snorkel, I'd do Akumal, the entrance is much better there. We tried snorkeling at Tankah and it was such a chore to get in over all the rocks and stuff I didn't see the attraction. The cenote is lovely, though.

How much do you want to spend? In Tulum, Los Lirios is still running that $82 deal, and they have a/c if that's a concern for you.

Other than that, a lot of places will have deals, from Copal/Azulik all the way south.

I know La Luna is closed Sep/Oct, but plenty of other places to choose from. Not all of them will give you a deal over the internet in advance, and a few places (like NV) aren't real big on haggling anyway, but there are enough other places you can negotiate with in person.

Hey Trish...NV is on your list?? Are you announcing an upcoming trip?? :)

I know that your trip to Tulum was only for a few days, similar to what beatfarmer is planning. Didn't you stay at La Luna?? Would you recommend it again and stay longer this time? Who knows....DH & I might want to sneak in a short trip soon.

I agree that the entry is a little difficult in Tankah, but I like it because it's far less crowded than in Akumal and the forceful expulsion of fresh water (from the cenote) into the ocean there produces a series of swirling, burbling pools that make snorkeling there a particularly fun and interesting experience. The special rate currently being offered at Casa Amor del Sol sounds like a really good deal to me.

Sounds like a fantastic deal, indeed!

Maybe this is just a question for more experienced snorkelers than I. How do you get through all the rocks to a point that's deep enough to put on your fins and stuff without breaking an ankle?

Are there smoother places to enter the water that we just didn't see? Or maybe I should have worn surf shoes and skipped the flipper part?

:swimming:

I'm thinking I must be the wussiest snorkeler in history. :o

BR! I find that the entrance in Half Moon Bay/Akumal is quite rocky and saw some poor woman totally scraped when a wave hit her when she was trying to exit. I am not familiar with the entrance at ABR or whatever it is now. There was one place north of Luna Azul that had a very flat but big rock that i could enter and exit at..my only problem: I don't navigate too well, and 99% of the time as i was heading in, i ended up on all the rocks.

No sadly....it's on my list for 'next trip'.

While I enjoyed La Luna, we only paid $150 per night for our room. I don't think I'd pay over $200 in low season. It was fab don't get me wrong but for that price I'd be getting beach service and breakfast at least if not a pool...you know?

Would love to plan a trip when you guys were there!!!

I'm seriously leaning towards Isla for the whale shark thing and something new and cheaper!

Depending on what you want out of those 5 days, there are some great AI prices out there right now. I believe through LG you can get the Catalonia Royal Tulum for just $138 a night and that includes everything. If snorkeling is one of your wants, you could do ABR on Akumal Bay for $158 a night and that also includes everything! At those prices you could still eat out elsewhere!!

For me, a short trip like that I would like to spend just chilling out the whole time, no worries.

Is the ABR still open, Minnie? I didn't know if they'd reopened after the flu closure. Hope so.
