So that is it?? 36 hours in Tulum ~ that's all you need?
The article seems somewhat strange to me. Didn't include any beach time either.

Agreed very weird considering the closure of Amansala

Every one of the '36 Hours in ...' articles are weird - at least the ones that are about places I've been to. I thought you guys might get a chuckle out of it.

I saw this article posted on LG, too. I wonder if it's really paid advertisement???

Not a paid advertisement. But by the sounds of it, even though NYTimes writers aren't allowed to take comps, it sounds like a comped trip - or a trip report written without actually going.
36 hours is not even two days.

Altogether odd!
And no lounging on the beach? Then why even go to Tulum, if not to enjoy the beauty of the beach?
Hmmm, like I said, odd...

I loved all the wry and sardonic comments- here's a funny one, describing Tulum architecture: "Think Gilligan's Island decorated by Stevie Nicks."

I have to say: Weird is right! Regarding the meditation photo, first one on the report:, how much meditation can you really do, smeared in honey and clay, standing on a beach with the sun and temps and the noise of the ocean with people walking by and saying out loud: ( which i probably would be saying:)
WHAT the living helll are those people doing??????
I meditate in Tulum like this:
Good book, good tequila, good beer, good hubby and good friends we have made down there the past years. Also relaxing to the incredible sea and the sand and the night sky and other beautiful things in Tulum. I honesty think I would be having nightmares if i arrived at my cabana, walked out and had seen that whole scene...Yikes!
Not saying i think meditating is dumb..but this was a little on the odd side, IMO

Oy, I just read this article...strange indeed! And what kind of budget was this "reporter" on?! I thought the weirdest thing was that they didn't eat any Mexican food other thann ceviche. Oh well. The article isn't really very flattering to Tulum so hopefully it won't make people want to go there! :)

Whenever I've had mud drying on my skin, I've never been able to relax...it gets so itchy.
Anyway...I don't think any of us have ever seen anyone standing at the beach like this with mud on their skin. Hmmm

I did have a clay massage when I was down there and looked something like those girls (although without a suit on) but I wasn't on the beach. It could have just been a photo opp.

I think these photo opps are so misleading to anyone who reads the article and thinks a scenario as in the photo is prevelant.
