Any recommendations for deep sea fishing in Tulum? Or would we be better off heading to Playa del Carmen or Akumal for this?

Thanks!

We don't get too many requests for deep sea fishing in Tulum. There is some great fishing out of Punta Allen which is probably one & half to two hours further south of Tulum. If it is a "must" for the trip I would suggest the Boca Paila Fishing Lodge, Sol Caribe or as I said, Punta Allen. Boca & Sol Caribe are on the way down to Punta Allen.

Someone did a fishing trip I think from Tulum, can't remember right now, but if you do a search, I think you can find out what they did.

Here's a link to our trip from March 2009.

We went into Punta Allen and hooked up with a friend-of-a-friend. Plenty of boats and fishing crews to be had in PA. If you head down that way, I would suggest to stay in the area. Way to long of a road trip from Tulum after the big day of fishing. We paid $2000/peso plus fuel for 4-5 hrs. of fishing out to the reef and along bird island. Well worth it!!

We didn't do any blue water fishing, but we did flats fishing with Pesca Maya.

They were nice, but when I made the reservation a specifically asked for a guide that would do some teaching.
First time that I did any fly fishing other than trout in Minnesota.
The guide was nice enough but you could tell he was not interested in rookies. We did catch quite a few bone fish on both spin and fly gear.
Everytime I fish with my wife she either catches the biggest or the most fish.

I know a few people that I can set you up with here in Tulum, in the Sian Ka'an, and also in Punta Allen......PM me if you have any questions....

The hard part about most of the pros, as Nautical Nudist found out, is that they only work with hard core sports fisherman and don't provide equipment....I've seen guys in a thousand dollars worth of clothes, hats, glasses and boots get into boats not to mention the equipment.....

But most of the guys that I work with are just regular guys, just doing this to make money to feed their families, they work for themselves. But are safe, fun and patient. Fishing is supposed to be that way, no? :boat:

I told my DH about this last night.
And we agreed that the fishing that Margo set us up with was perfect. We like to try new things and are total rookies. We felt no shame in our lack of knowledge about this and that - we were just out for fun and that's what we got.

Getting the hubby geared up for the fishing in March. Perfect xmas present purchased last weekend....10' fishing pole w/reel (deep sea/beach) plus nice carry case for the airplane!!

NOW...we'll have to make more trips to Mexico to use it. :D

Margo I'll be in touch with you sometime after the holidays.
