Hi folks,
Two years ago my wife and I had a fantastic tulum vacation staying at nueva vida. We'd like to go back for new years, but NV is quoting us $390 per night for a room! Yipes! I thought the economy was supposed to make things cheaper! Anyway, can someone suggest another similar place that might be a bit more affordable, but still live up to the expectations we've acquired from our stay at NV?
Thanks a bunch for this great forum!

Try Suenos! Very nice place, owners are great, good breakfasts, nice place on the beach, you can ask for dinner there. They have a pool, it is private and less $$$ than you have quoted. Look at the upper level, king bed suites. Jorge and Elizabeth are great. You have a very secure place to park and they are there to make your stay wonderful.
(Haven't looked at their rates for the time you are going though) THat is a busy time

Yeah, New Year's is going to be a challenge no matter where you look, since it's pretty much the only way places are going to be able to make their money this year, but what about Tita Tulum? Not quite as nice as NV, but definitely less expensive.
Or, since you really liked Nueva Vida, perhaps Hechizo de Luna? I believe their site is www.hechizodelunatulum.com (http://www.hechizodelunatulum.com), and they're actually units within the NV complex.
If the beaches have recovered, you might find some good deals at Casa de Miel or Hemingway. I'm hoping to check their beaches next week, see if they've recovered from an erosion problem they had last winter/spring. Of course, knowing the beaches are back won't guarantee they'll be there when you're there, but things don't always move so quickly.
What about Copal? They seem to have a wide variety of prices...

Yep, it's because it's New Year's. You're going to get inflated prices everywhere. There's tons of demand for that time.
I'd try Tierras del Sol.

A master suite at Suenos is $285/nite over New Years, and that includes a continental breakfast. That's quite a bit less than what you were quoted from NV. I'd book it asap...we loved our stay at Suenos, and it's our second choice after Nueva Vida.

Kayt & Phyllis...I know that's shocking. LOL Don't worry, I'm still a huge Suenos fan!! If the cost was close between a Suenos master suite and a NV beachfront I'd have to flip a coin, I think...or stay at both for a week each!
