Hi -
I am new to the site  and am getting married in mid October and we are hoping to find the perfect honeymoon in Tulum and possibly near Pdc. I have been to Tulum twice and stayed at Amansala and Shambala PEtite and loved it, but we are looking for something new and romantic. My fiance has never been to the area. We are considering the romance villa at Azulik and possibly 2-3 nights at Banyon Tree Myakoba (for our real splurge)
Any one here have thoughts? Should we be concerned about hurricanes at this time?
Thanks so much for your input!

Azulik would be nice for a hotel setting.

You might even consider renting Casa de las Palmas - even though it's technically too much space for you...but I believe the price is comparable. You can have Johnny cook for you. Get a massages from Margo. Eat next door at La Zebra. And...have a section of beach all to yourself.

If you look more into Banyan Tree - (which looks gorgeous!!). Double check on the beach location. I'm not sure how much actual beach there is considering how many hotel rooms are lcoated there.

Having a whole house (like Casa dlP--www.tulumbeachhouse.com) would be so luxurious and private, and not much more than Azulik, even in low season. I think the Romance Villa is listed at $285, though they are running some nice specials.

Casa dlP would probably be more than that per night, but it would be all your own, and you'd have Margo to help you plan or not plan what you want to do, like a personal concierge, I guess. If you want to see more pictures, I posted a bunch on a thread titled Casa de las Palmas. Pepper's actually stayed there, but (ahem) has yet to post any pictures of the place. :p

You'd have your own fridge full of bevvies for whenever you want one (no need to wait for a waiter, or pay those prices), a cool kitchen and outdoor grilling/dining area for times when you want to eat at home and plenty of restaurants nearby for going out.

Another nice honeymoon-y room would be the Hechizo de Luna room at Hechizo de Luna (it's within the Nueva Vida de Ramro complex). Has a great deck and a clawfoot bathtub, rare in Tulum (though Azulik has very cool tubs too), if you like baths. There's a thread on this place as well.

If you like to dress up and be fancy, I guess Mayakoba would be a beautiful place, but if I were on my honeymoon, I'd be happier just hanging out in bare feet and not having to move/pack at all.

OK, sorry for the hard sell on staying in Tulum. :o Mayakoba would be lovely, I'm sure.

I just cruised through Banyan Tree's site - and didn't see one pic of the beach. Maybe I missed it, but it all seems to be all about the canals and not so much about the beach.
Although, again...absolutely stunning details and architecture.

BR - your pics of CdlP are better than anything I have. Seriously...much more detailed.

Thanks, the house is not available for our dates, but looks so cool. We aren't 100% sold on the Banyon Tree thing, but I have just read so much on Trip advisor and people seem to love it. My fiance is not used to the no lights and air conditioning thing.
Should be interesting

Ah, OK, so you think he might be a bit happier with the combo thing? Sounds like a good plan.

I can't help you with the big resorts, but if it's the Azulik part you're not sure about, in addition to the rooms mentioned above, you can check out Ana y Jose (very expensive, but quite romantic, really), or one of the nicer rooms at La Zebra.

Suenos Tulum has quite a few happy campers around here, and they have a pool (so does Ana y Jose, but almost no one else) that your fiance might appreciate. Ocho also has some great rooms, but they're pretty pricey for not a lot of in-room romance. I mean, unless they've changed things, their style was kind of spare for my taste.

Or...head all the way down into the Sian Ka'an? The Treehouse unit at Xamach Dos is pretty darned romantic, and you'll feel very cast away down there. Quite inexpensive, too, compared to the other places, and the beds there are really great.

I'd also totally recommend the Capt. Dale Beach House at La Luna, but they're closed in October for some renovations.

Having said all that, Azulik is a beautiful and very romantic place, and with the specials they've been running, definitely less dear than it used to be.

Congratulations on your wedding, hope your fiance loves Tulum too!

Oh, and I wouldn't worry too much about hurricanes. I mean, you can't plan for them other than buying trip insurance, which I would recommend.

My standard advice for any trip where rain might be a possibility is to ensure that your room has a nice covered outdoor space so you can hang out and enjoy the weather when and if it does come (OK, not hurricanes, but regular rainstorms). Suenos falls a bit in this category, but Azulik's decks are awesome, and so is the one at Hechizo de Luna.

I was going to suggest Suenos or La Luna - still keep forgetting Luna is closing in Oct for the renovations. But Suenos would be great. That's where I honeymooned. Great service there, and beautiful rooms on a gorgeous stretch of beach.

And I'd definitely get the trip insurance. Sorry for the double negative, but don't not go to Tulum just because it's October. But it's enough of a possibility, and you'd be spending enough money on it, that trip insurance would be a good idea.

I'm with Phyllis......Suenos would be an awesome place for a honeymoon. They take such good care of you. Fix your dinner if you want, make you drinks or snacks. And very private with a great pool. We are staying at Hechizo de Luna in October which has great reviews per Margo. Check it out.

First off http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/Minniemex/A1/welcome.gif to the board!!

What kind of guy is your soon to be husband? Is he going to be ok without A/C?? Excellent advice given but if that is important then probably Ana Y Joses.

Congrats on your upcoming nuptuals!

My son and his fiance chose Secrets Maroma over Banyon Tree Myakoba for their upcoming honeymoon. SM is offering killer deals right now, and I've never heard a bad report about them. It's located maybe a dozen miles north of Playa and the beach is gorgeous. http://www.secretsresorts.com/maroma/index.asp

As far as Tulum, I would choose either Suenos or one of the new beachfront bungalows at Nueva Vida. I've stayed at Suenos & NV, and you will love the service, as well as the accomodations at either one. The staff at both are wonderful. If you would like a pool, go with Suenos.

Lynnette, is Secrets Maroma the same place that used to be known as just "Maroma"? If so, that was always on my dream list. One of the few great beaches (water entry-wise) up that way, too, in an area with a lot of ironshore.

Or is it a separate resort using the same Maroma beach?

In Tulum we liked Copal... if AC is required I agree with the Ana Y Joses recomendation. My suggestion for the ultimate for a romantic atmosphere, drive south of Tulum to Xamach Dos... it is the greatest.

Secrets Maroma is pretty new...opened in 2008. I think there are other resorts on Maroma Beach, too. It's supposed to be one of the best beaches along the RM coast.

After reading the reviews, Secrets Maroma is on my dream list now!!! It looks fabulous!!!!

We LOVED Secrets Capri. A smaller AI with fantastic a la carte restaurants and service. Maroma has a better beach so I'm sure that would be FANtastic for some honeymoon pampering.

I know El Dorado took over an existing resort BR but not sure if it was known as Maroma before.

You could do a few nights in Tulum and a few nights at Secrets.

Ana y Jose would be a good compromise and I think it looks very nice. I haven't checked reviews recently thought so double check.

We stayed at one of the several "Maroma" resorts last year. The Maroma you are talking about just called Maroma Resort. It is really nice, not an AI, but probably would have been better to visit 5 years ago as the area is more crowded now. Not overly so, but much more than it used to be.

We stayed at El Dorado Maroma and loved it. 90 rooms or so. Secrets Maroma was not open last summer, but we saw it going up. Looks nice but too big for us. There are a couple of other resorts there too including an Italian AI if I remember correctly.

Aw. I fell in love with the idea of Maroma many years ago, probably 10-15, when it was an exclusive, non-AI luxury resort all by its lonesome on that beautiful beach. I never stayed there (couldn't afford to), but it was on my dream list.

Now that I know there are so many other resorts on the same beach, I'm no longer enamored. But that's good, because my dream list has been getting too long anyway, good to knock a few off now and then.

You're exactly right. Each time I think I'm whittling away at my list, three more places pop up that I'd like to try.

I must admit though, the water is AMAZING to get into there.

We stayed @ Suenos for our honeymoon in May. We booked the Luna`s master-suite..I think it was $220 a night. I really enjoyed the pool...The staff was excellent....No need for A.C. on the 3rd floor..plenty of breeze. Zero complaints here !!!! Here`s a few pic of Suenos inside & out..Enjoy !!

No air conditioning???? WELL: no need for all those clothing items...I would think NO a/c would not be a problem :) Especially on a honeymoooooon.
Have fun and hope you get all the ifo you need to start your lives together
