Hi there! I just got back from a week in Tulum. Hot and buggy, but still better than any day at work! I wanted to share some wonderful places to eat in hopes you will help support them. Things are still very quiet in Tulum and these people need our support. I will have to break out the map and give you better directions in the next few days.
I will give you the names for now:
El Bistro is small restaurant next to Elemental and Suschill on the East side of 307 in town. They have great service good prices and out of this world food. I had a ham, mushroom and cheese crepe that was dreamy. My cohorts had chicken breast with a cream sauce and mushrooms..mmmmm. Came with delicious green beans and potatoes. GO NOW..so good!!! oh oh !! I forgot the best part....dessert: A crepe filled with nutella, bananas, chocolate sauce and topped with a dollop of whipped cream. Oh yea.
Saulsalito Taco Bar is also on the East side of 307. Used to be Azafran for those of you familiar with the back streets in Tulum. Now remodeled and SO CUTE and trendy. Fabulous atmosphere, splendid upbeat salsa music, and incredible food. Tacos are fantastic. I had carne asada taco a shrimp taco and a bean and rice taco. Fresh, yummy nad so affordable. I think the tacos were 150 pesos...less than Urge which are up to 200 pesos. My friend had a shrimp dish that made me want to fall out of my chair it was so good. GO NOW!!
Azafran take a right at the first glorieta and look for red fabric on your left side. This place has amazing bagels when you tire of the same of grind. They are freshly made by the german owner. I had the Brie and salami bagel and another that had a cream chesse with nuts topped with a freshly made berry jam. I do think they are WAAAYYYY too expensive. I believe the cheapest option is around 45 pesos. My Brie bagel was 90 pesos!!! It comes with a nice little green salad and some fruit but I do not think the prices are reasonable. But I do enjoy a good bagel, so I had to mention it.
Please go and eat out and enjoy some great food!! These guys need us!!
