So I finally found some availability for my dates - and it seems like (given that the other thread has led me to not book at PM) the two top choices are TDS and NVR - at TDS, ocean front cabans and at NVR, Luna Blanca and Miel - family group of six adults and 1 child....since my parents are coming and are a bit older, i want a place that is nice, not too rustic and comfortable, with fans at night, etc....and of course a great beach

Both properties have a fantastic beach!! I would choose either in a heartbeat.
Nueva has a restaurant, as does Tierra del Sol but just not as dependable if I am remembering correctly.
TDS is further south down the beach and does not have as many restaurants immediately accessible.
Is there any huge price difference?? Don't be afraid to ask for discounts!

TDS is a total of about $60 per night different (total for all rooms not per room) so not a big difference - I am going to email and ask for discounts - should I offer to prepay/wire and get a discount? How much discount should I expect and how to position in?
For three rooms at NVR, the total is about $370 (3 jr suites) and at TDS it is about $310 (3 ocean front cabanas) - again for November 23-29th

Also I forgot to add in that Playa Mambo is a choice! Three oceanfront cabanas for about $320 a night collectively....sooooooooo what about Mambo vs. TDS. NVR?

You mean you can get all three beachfront units for only $320? That's an incredible, stunning deal. Normal low-season rates there are $120/$135 per night.
I'd pick Mambo between Mambo and TDS. TDS is wonderful, but it's really far south, and with a mixed group you might want to be a bit more centrally-located. You'll be close to La Zebra for salsa night fun, and continental breakfast is included, not sure if it is at TDS.
What rooms are you considering at NVR? You said Luna Blanca, did you mean Blanca Duna? That's the one with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, four beds total. I think that would be a great unit. The other one, you said Miel, did you mean Luna de Miel? That's an upstairs unit, so probably not good for your parents, but a really nice room. Is there a third room at NV?
Lazydog did a great review of Playa Mambo, with pictures of all three beachfront units, in her last trip report. I'll go find it for you.
Irishgirl and a few others really love TDS, I just think for a group it might be a bit far away from things. Others may disagree.
Here's Lazydog's report: http://tulum.info/showthread.php?t=3569
BP is staying at Mambo this week for a few nights, if you want to wait a while for more recent commentary...

You are correct about what I meant at NVR - three bedrooms total but that is sufficient for our group especially since that means three bathrooms as well - one couple on the unit on top and my parents and siblings downstairs....looking at the trip report posted, it seems that the rooms are NVR are more pleasing to the eye than mambo...and that is important as this is a very special trip for my family that I am treating them to

I think NVR is a great choice, and the fact that they have a restaurant on-site that does room service might be nice for your group. I haven't actually been inside of either of those rooms, but Blanca Duna is always on my list for groups because having four beds and two bathrooms just seems like such a luxurious amount of space. The only drawback, IMO, is that room doesn't have much in the way of porch space. There is a porch, just not very large, and it's not right on the water. Not far back, just not right there.
Next week we're staying in the Magico Amenecer unit, two beds full beachfront with a nice beachfront porch for your parents to sit on and enjoy, so that might be something to consider, but it doesn't have the room you'll get inside of Blanca Duna. There's a king-sized unit upstairs, but it sounds like that might not be enough beds for your group?
Sorry, don't mean to confuse things. How old/fit are your parents? Will they be able to come up to the upper unit to sit on the porch so the group can be together on someone's deck? Just a small detail, really; I shouldn't confuse matters.
Back to Casa de las Palmas, that would be SO the perfect space for your group, and it would be actually cheaper than the nightly rates you're talking about for NV (though it wouldn't include breakfast, a small matter with a full kitchen). I know you've sent them an e-mail asking about availability, maybe PM Margoinmexico as well, in case she might possibly be checking her personal e-mail while she's away.
I did a thread on them with lots of pictures, but maybe you shouldn't even look at them until you know if they're available. :)

I would be concerned about possible noise issues at Playa mambo unless you're not going to be there on the weekend when they have the all-night party.
Nueva Vida would be a great choice IMHO.
Enjoy!

Playa Mambo doesn't have an all-night party, Trish, do they? Are you thinking of maybe Playa Azul?
Mambo is between Casa Violeta and La Zebra.

Playa Mambo has an all-night party??
You know, I've heard wonderful things about staying at Playa Mambo. I have visited the property 3 times because I've been grappling with whether to stay there. Now, they have been very friendly and helpful by email when I have contacted them, but each time that I've been on the property, I've gotten an unfriendly and unhelpful vibe from the guys. Yes, that's very subjective, but, besides probably not having a nice porch and a wide open view of the beach and sea, that's what's keeping me away. One of the times, the reason I went there was about being in on the family-style dinner that they put on and that people rave about, and as I asked about it, I was getting that unwelcoming vibe which told me to drop it.

I just stumbled upon a place called Casa Sophia - does anyone how to contact the owner directly? I doubt Locogringo would ask if the owner will extend the special to cover my dates but at $2900 I may would splurge for it...anyone familiar? I may do a separate post to see if others are aware.

The rate for Casa Palmas is $3500 a week - that is more than what I will pay at NVR - by a fair amount..

I thought the rate for Thanksgiving at Casa de las Palmas is only $2500. According to tulumbeachhouse.com, doesn't November fall under "happy turtle season"?

That looks to be an awesome property. I think someone just went there but I can't find anything on a search.
Just remember this property is 4kms inside the biosphere so no restaurants nearby except for CEsiak. I would just ask at LG if they can ask the owners if you can have the cheaper rate. I do believe I also read that the taxes of 12 % are not included, so be sure to get a price that includes tax.

Just checked, they wont go below $4200 plus the taxes and so that is a bit steep but it is an amazing property

I agree, it is a beautiful property!! I would love to go with a whole family and split the costs!! Otherwise it is out of my budget.:o Or go off season with 3 other couples ~ then it would only come to $812 a couple for a week. That I could manage for that property!

I hear ya! The perfect vacation. Interesting...there's also Behla, Zamna, Casa de Las Olas (near the biosphere), and Casa Houston (remote: http://www.locogringo.com/maps/tour/Pa030120a-t.html)
Do you fact-finders out there know of any others? :D
