Ok, so we know it's not wise to trek across the reserve on a scooter (see previous thread). My question is are the beaches in the Sian Ka'an easily accessible. In other words is it possible to park on the side of the road to access a remote beach?

There are plenty of sandy areas to pull off the main road and park. Be sure the sand is not too deep, and don't leave any personal belongings in plain site (lock them in the trunk.) You could spend an entire day, driving up and down the road and pulling off to the side to explore the beach. You most likely won't see another soul the entire time you're there.

Cheers,
Kat

Treat sandy pull-off areas like you're in a snowy area, i.e., don't trust it until you get out and stamp around on it a bit before parking. You wouldn't want to get stuck down there without chains! :)

But other than that, yes. You'll see the ocean several times, those are the best places to head over there.

Have fun PhilnShela,

We leave in the morning too. If you see a 6'8" guy with a shaved head and his arm in a sling say "Hi".

I hope you have a great trip. I just checked in online and I am glad I did. United sent me an email with my flights being changed with a destination of Boston and not Cancun. At least I got it fixed.

Have fun.
