I've been trying to find a way to get down before February with my girlfriend and the only way is to take her two grandkids (ages 2 and 4) with us. Ran down this morning and applied for their passports. Leaving September 7 and returning September 23rd. Airfare was $268 per person out of Chicago on Mexicana. They still allow you 2 bags per person, free drinks, and a real meal. I talked to the manager of Villa Blanca on Cozumel and he is giving me a room there for 2 weeks at $35 a night. Figured the kids would need a pool.

We'll be in Tulum on the 7th. to pickup the Explorer then back in Tulum on the 22nd.

My rule about only bring kids out in public once a year to find out why you don't bring them out has been overcome by my desire to be in Mexico.

Wish me luck

Aw, it'll be fun, and hey, you'll be in Mexico! Best of luck and have a great trip! (Great deals on the flights and room, btw!)

Leave it to Steve O. to get two weeks in country, including airfare, for under $1000!! :eat-drink:

I think you may be pleasantly surprised with the kids along!! Don't forget pails and shovels for the sand!!

I haven't traveled with kids in a while. Already I have two more strollers to haul along. I have to bring down Mac & Cheese along with other food items. That doesn't include the number of tubes of sunscreen and a quanity of clothes. Do you need car seats in the limo and on the airplane? What about buckets and shovels? Maybe a raft or two. What if they don't like the milk? I have to haul down a DVD player so they can watch their movies on the plane. When does this stuff end? I'll put a little vodka in their juice bottles or give them a little Nite time Ny Quil before I leave and they will sleep the whole way down. Since when do kids have to be so pampered? I am sure I will have a report to do about traveling with kids. Right now I can say "leave them at home."

You do not need the car seats on the plane but they do check them and it doesn't count as part of your luggage. We were really glad to have them for the kids when traveling in Mexico.

I think you need to go with the attitude that this is going to be the worst trip ever ( :D ) and then when good things happen it will just be a bonus!

Play pen is taken care of. Renting it on the island. Not bringing car seats. Don't need them in the limo to the airport, on the airplane, on the bus to Tulum, or on the car ferry. Not really worried about an accident. I might even leave the kids with Trudy. A nanny might be in the works. I have the duct tape and could lose the letter of consent for them to travel with us so would have to leave them on the island. Yes, this might be a good trip.
