Hola all! We returned Sunday night from a wonderful week in Tulum. Here's a quick summary.

I have to say that last year was our first time in Tulum. We went the same week in July that we did this year. Our trip last year was absolutely PERFECT. Everything was just perfect...no bugs, very little rain, good breezes at night but not too windy, no illness, etc. That's a tough act to follow.

This year, although our vacation was wonderful it did not quite match up to last year. We had huge storms that lasted quite a while (someone told us it was a tropical storm??), we were eaten alive by mosquitos, and Josh got a bug and was VERY sick on his birthday which was supposed to be our big fishing day with Margo. We couldn't fish because the water was way too choppy and a huge storm came through so Margo and I enjoyed ourselves w/ a few cervezas but poor Josh was miserable all day.

Having said that...we had a GREAT time. Other than Josh being sick I wouldn't change a thing!!! We made the best of our time and enjoyed every second. The rain didn't bother us...we just found a beach bar/restaraunt to ride it out in. It was a delight to finally meet Margo. She is just lovely and soooo interesting and gracious. I wish we could have spent more time together.

So, I've decided that there is no such thing as a "bad" time in Tulum!! It is just so beautiful there. I will try to get to my trip report this weekend but be patient. I resigned from my job of 13 years just before we left and next week is my last week. I have a TON to do before I leave and I start my new job on the 27th so it may take me a while. I promise it won't take over 6 months like it did last year!

Thank you all again for your insight and information. It was again extremely helpful.

Yay! Glad you had a good time despite the illness & weather. We had a similar experience when Kevin got sick the last time we were both there together--it was a real bummer. Just gotta deal with it! Sorry you missed out on the fishing trip, but sounds like you made the best of it. It might be raining, but you're still in Tulum, right?? :D

Hey, Welcome home!!! So sorry for Josh being sick and the weather being too crappy to fish in; I know you guys were really looking forward to that! :boat:

Still, nice to discover that you still really love the place even with all the negatives.

Good luck with the new job, and honestly, if it only takes you a month to get this one done, we'll forgive you for last time!!!

Welcome back! We will patiently wait for your report....
Good luck with the new job. We were at XD when the wind was howling, which meant we did not get out on the Kayaks, or fish..which was our plan, but we DID have a very relaxing time! I was LAUGHING at all the mosquitos that couldn't land on me!:) Kind of nice as i am a mosquito magnet.
Rain, wind, bugs, etc is all just better in paradise than at home..

Yes, had a bit of a change of plans, got a terrible cold  before I left Cancun, so doing a bit of recovery at my step-daughters house in near Ephrata, WA. Really nice to get this extra time with her, but wish it were under better circumstances.......I feel better today, looks like I will be able to go to the wedding tomorrow after all. Ready for all the swine flu inquiries:eek::eek::eek:

I'm supposed to be camping right now with a lot of wonderful friends.....you just never know what's going to happen next!

OMG, I forgot about all the swine flu rumors that you'll have to laugh off! What a drag. I'm so sorry you're sick, but that's going to make it more of a hassle than it needs to be. :(

I hope you'll still get to go to the big jam with Camilo Nu!

Irish Girl, I had a similar experience (except for getting sick- what a bummer!) I was especially surprised at the bugs- I had no problems last year, but this year I looked like a plague victim! But despite that and the somewhat iffy weather, I still had a fantastic time. I LOVED Nueva Vida- the staff are all excellent.
