Can anybody tell me if you can use the beach and restaurant at Cabanaas Copal if you are not staying there? Somebody told me we should eat there during our trip.

Thanks for your advice.

I think you can use the beach and restaurant even if you are not a hotel guest. We went to the Mayan Spa for a massage on our last trip, and there appeared to be no restriction on where we went after the massage.

No problem to use the beach, just buy a drink or two from the bar, or the bar tender that makes the rounds of the beach. They only have about 6 or 7 beach palapas for shade, so it's not like a full blown beach club. The beach bar, Tun Tun is up some stairs from the beach, and has shaded seating..it is sometimes used for wedding receptions, which would of course be private.

The Copal restaurant is open to the public, but it is located alongside the beach road, and does not have an ocean view. Tun Tun has a limited bar menu for food.

The whole scene at Cabanas Copal is pretty open, people coming and going from the Spa and Tun Tun and Azulik next door...if you want to drop in to check it out, you won't feel out of place...if you decide to "park" and stay awhile, patronize one of their businesses (I'll second the Spa recommendation!)

Thanks for the info. It sounds like there will be no problem using their beach.

Another nice feature you can use after a day on the beach are the showers. They are somewhere between the beach bar and reception. You will see an area with outdoor sinks, and near there are two outdoor shower stalls. They use brackish warm water. After spending time on the beach, we took showers and then went to the spa for massages.

Yes you can walk up and eat a nice lunch at the bar from the beach. We have done that and although they did have a limited menu at the beach bar, the nachos and ceviche' were fabulous! Would highly recommend!

No hotel owns the beach in front of them, so they can never stop you from using them. First 20 meters is Federal Zone.
