We'll be in Playa this April there will be 9 of us. Some of us have been to the Tulum Areological Park, but we came by taxi. If we come by bus from the terminal in Playa where do they drop you off? The park or in town? Also some of us having already seen the park are going to opt for looking around the town of Tulum and then just hanging on the beach with several cervezas in mind.So this in mind can we walk to the beach or is it taxi time. Also what beach or drinking establishment would you recommend so we can give a name so the others may catch up with us.

I believe your best options for your trip would be to take the bus or Collectivo from Playa to Tulum Ruins and you will be dropped off right at the entrance to the ruins. From there to the beach you would need a taxi. Zamas is one good place to drink, but i would just walk around and see whats happening where. :) Ana y Jose is good for driks. These are just a couple of the better known places.

The town is a pretty good distance from the ruins and the beach. I would bus to town and it's only about a 30 peso cab ride to the beach. Once you get there and step onto the beach you are more than likey to see the ruins just down a ways. There's a good variety of spots along the beach where you can hang out at the bar and take in some sun and do a bit of drinking. Then who ever wants to can just walk to the ruins for a visit.

So I'm thinking that the Riveria Bus from Playa will drop us off at the town of Tulum not the ruins. Then we jump into a cab and go to the beach. What beach drinking establishment is closest to the ruins? It seems like there was an admission fee to get into the park when we went a few years ago. They don't mind if you just walk up the beach and enter? What I'm looking for is a name that I can tell the taxi driver.

We took the bus from Playa to Tulum a couple of weeks ago. It dropped us off near the ruins. We were going to the beach club so caught a taxi. 45 pesos. When we wanted to leave we took another taxi back and told them to take us to the bus stop. He took us to a bus station more down town. 30 pesos. So my guestion is if we wanted to get to down town Tulum did we get off the bus a stop to soon or do different busses go to different bus stations? Thanks. We really liked spending the day in Tulum and would like to go into town next year before heading to the beach.

There is a bus "stop" at the Tulum ruins, but the bus "station" is in the Pueblo (village) of Tulum. You got off one stop too soon. Cabs are available at both places, and all around the Pueblo, for that matter. If you're cabbing it, be sure to tell the cabbie if you want the ruins or the pueblo.

The bus will drop you off at either the ruins or in the pueblo of Tulum, just let the driver know where you're going. Believe the fare is 30 pesos from Playa. Cab from the pueblo is 35 pesos, as I recall. Our favourite spot on the beach is El Paraiso Beach Club. You can walk there from the ruins. Great chillin' beach, affordable chaises, palapas, decent food and refreshments. Though we haven't been to the ruins in a couple of years, it seems to me the admission charge is 38 pesos. You could beat that by walking up the beach, I suppose, but why would you? The development deserves your financial support, and 38 pesos is a small price to pay to help defray the costs.

There will be 9 of us heading up there. If we drop off 4 of them that have'nt seen the ruins before. And were going to continue into Tulum ( pueblo) then catch a cab to El Parisio like Bumper suggests, when they exit the ruins they just walk the beach to the right (south) and meet us at El Parisio ? We plan on spending the day. I hope this is'nt too long of a walk after exploring the ruins that they'll be all burnt out? Just how long of a walk is it to the beach club? I'm thinking maybe they should just take the tram back to the entrance and take a taxi to the beach club if it's a long walk. Everybody going is fairly well fit, but I know what the humidity is like down there this time of the year.

We walked from the El Parisio to almost to the ruins. (Within a couple of 100 yards.) Its not that far of a walk but it gets really rocky when you get close to the ruins. It might be unpassable. There is a coastguard station there that has a fence around it. Down at beach level it is very rocky. I think the only way would be in the water.

Yep, the heat and humidity is definitely a consideration. David is correct on the walking conditions as well, it can be a bit of a challenge, though not a lengthy hike. For what it costs, the cab to the beach club is a good alternative, and there will be a cold cerveza available at the end of the trip! 20 pesos, and a good investment!
