Hola!! First post on this board!!!

Going to Tulum, all's well, in February. Can't wait to leave the frigid, puritanical raw bleakness of grey old Boston! Not planning on renting a car -much prefer quiet hammock indolence - but would love to go to Coba for a day-trip. Does anyone know how easy it would be to find someone to drive there? We will be staying off the beaten track at Tierras del Sol.

I went to Coba in the early 90s - was staying in PDC and some wind-surf/snorkle shop guy organized an informal tour of about six people. (Drove us there and to some cenotes near Akumal I think. I would love to know whether this kinda informal thing is possible in Tulum or whether we should just plan on renting a car. Thanks!

There are so many thing to do and places to go that weren't here in '90, I suggest you rent a car to check them out. Coba's road was newly repaired when we went last Dec ('03), so it was an easy drive. Actun Chen caves were neat, also. dont forget to stop by the lake at Coba and see the crocodiles. - go up to the parking lot by Club Med and look from the platform/ramp there.
