Although I know this is the Tulum board - since some of you seem familiar with the area around Casa Cenote....
We are staying at a casita at Nah Uxibal (http://www.nahuxibal.com) and their website says that it on Soliman Bay...
Anyway - I have only found one review about the place - so I'd appreciate hearing about Nah Uxibal if anyone has any thoughts/comments on the location etc.
One thing specifically I would like to know is how far (approximately) it is up to the road/highway from the site of the casita and villa? We are wrestling with the decision whether to rent a car or not. I would much rather rent a car - than walk a mile up to the road every time we wanted to go somewhere. (I think I've already convinced myself) :)
Thanks in advance....

Soliman Bay is kinda isolated, you'll probably be 3/4 mile or a little more from the highway. the walk up to Oscar y Lalos isn't bad but walking to the highway everytime you want to go somewhere may be a drag on you... especially if it's raining, the road gets pretty muddy. I'd opt for a car/jeep down there

I've never stayed at Nah Uxibal, but we love Solimon Bay and are sure you will be happy there. if you are renting the whole villa, it has a nice circular stairway and a fun pool table and rec area upstairs. (we know the builder and are copying the plan for our casa in Tankah (when we get permits) the water is wonderful and the people are great. it's a loverly place - have fun :)

[FONT=Lucida Console]Nah Uxibal is a great place to stay, we were in casa IK right on the water. Definitly rent a car. There is much to see around Tulum and Akamal. The snorkeling is great right in the bay and there is a family of rays that live there. Rosa is a wealth of info. Please give solobino, the dog, and lady a great big hug for me.

Aaaaaah Solibino... you are right!
Just checking back in..... and wanted to give a little report on our stay at Nah Uxibal. Before we went I really couldn't find much about it ~ and now I wonder if it isn't because the people who have discovered it are trying to keep it all to themselves... which I understand.
We stayed in the HA casita for 5 days around Christmas. It was absolutely the greatest! We loved everything about it. Some things of note:
1. The dogs..... were so friendly but not pesky and very clean. It seemed like they knew when they were going to overstay their welcome and promptly found someone else to entertain. It was nice to have them around - plus they patrolled the area...
2. All the little extra things..... The refrigerator was stocked w/eggs, milk, tortillas, and juice. One thing to make sure - look at all the items that have been "left behind" so that you don't duplicate when you go to the market. Plus the CD player, extra blankets for naps in the hammock, maps, and kayaks were much appreciated.
3. Javier and Victoria - the caretakers were wonderfully accomodating - i.e. helping us carry our groceries back to the casita when we got back from the market. The grounds are kept meticulously clean - Javier was up before dawn raking the beach.
4. The snorkeling - you could kayak out to the reef and tie off to the buoy. After kayaking out - I was actually too chicken to venture any further than close to where the kayak was (I know I'm a baby) BUT.... snorkeling closer to shore in the bay was great too! I had an encounter w/ an octopus who was as startled as I - and he shot some ink at me.
So true that it is important to rent a car.....we just did things at our own pace... Soliman Bay is definitely the best vacation I have ever had .... as well as Nah Uxibal.... I hope to come back often!!
