My daughter in law brought this to my attention. Take it for what it is worth, but I guess if there is a sunscreen out there that should cause less problems for me I am for it!!

Can you tell us a few of their recommended sunscreens? To get to that place they wanted my information and stuff and I didn't want to give it but I am interested.
Thanks!

Oh, oops, I didn't see that, sorry! :o
Now I just have to hit Amazon.com to see if I can find some of these things because I've never heard of most of them!

Here is another link that has their "best products" list...Mexitan is on there, around #20 I think. California Baby also makes an appearance, which they sell at my local SuperTarget.

Interesting.....I haven't heard of any of these brand names either. Some of the approved sunscreens have ingredients that are not supposed to be healthy. When I was a kid, my Mom (a health nut) slathered the whole family with PABA....now banned because it's a carcinogen. You never know what to believe anymore.

When we were kids, any kind of lotion was called "suntan lotion", not "sunblock", and when we were teens, we went out with baby oil on!

We used baby oil as teens too...with iodine added. For pink aesthetics??? :D

Are there any good sunscreens available in Mexico in the case that we don't want to check baggage (the whole 3 oz thing)?

I am not sure any of the "good" kind are available in Mexico, but they do carry a lot of the same brands we do here. It is just a tad bit more expensive there than here.

Don't even know if this is on the good list or bad list, but I'm loving the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch. Various SPF's available, and the tube is . . . 3oz!! How great is that??? We didn't check bags, just carry-on, and we each brought a tube down in our 3-1-1 zip lock baggie. More than sufficient quantity for us for 9 night trip.

Does anyone know if/where they sell the biodegradable sunscreens in Tulum? I see that those are the only ones recommended for snorkeling and we'd like to comply. We're going to try for carry on only and would prefer to purchase there. I can find Mexitan online for about $20 with S/H...so am wondering if it is any more than that in town?
Thanks!

I avoid sunscreen altogether when I snorkel by just wearing a long sleeved shirt that is SPF -50. It works so much better and also provides some warmth. Also drys very quickly and comes in handy if I get chilled on land!! You can get them online. They are often referred to as "rash guard" shirts.

I was thinking that might be the easiest way to go as well! Thanks Minnie!

You know, we should try to find out who sells the "right" stuff down there. I know they used to sell it at the Alltournative shop, but I noticed that was no longer there in December.
I agree the shirt would be a good choice, but what about the backs of your legs? Do you wear pants too?
Maybe you can find a couple of 3 oz. tubes of the eco stuff (which I have found at most health-food stores) to bring with you and only use it for the snorkeling places. Then, for days that you're just hanging on the beach, just use the traditional stuff?

That is the cool part of snorkeling!! I never have to turn over on the beach because that is all done while I snorkel:D
Really, I never have any trouble with the backs of my legs. I have on one occasion burned, but there is more to that story!!
