We're booked for Cabanas La Conchita :D ! March 2009. If anyone can tell stories about the place, I'd love to hear them, pictures too. The GarGoyles are pumped and jumping. Somos tan emocionados! I think 1/2 of my excitement is knowing I'll be introducing 3 good friends to some things I really love: sopa de lima, cenotes, the sand, Ek Balam, Merida on the weekend, Labnah, bits 'n bytes of the Spanish language and mostly - the people of the Yucatan that we'll meet: innkeepers, shopkeepers, women of our age who started up Yokdoznot Cenote when we visit there, other Tulumophiles, the salsa artists in Playa. I love vacation pre-excitement!

We stayed at La Conchita for 10 days about 3 years ago. This was one of my fave places to stay and we would continue to stay with them, but they have a ban on kids under 6. Mine is 5...I'm waiting for him to turn 6 so we can stay at LaC again!!

We found all the guests to be great and friendly - from all over the US, Netherlands, Germany, UK. It was a wonderful mix.
The staff was friendly and gave the most thorough cleaning of the room everyday.
And of course the breakfasts are legendary - we would sit and linger for an hour or more over juice, coffee and everything. Most rave about the banana pancakes, but it's the french toast that's the real winner here.

If you have any specific questions, I'll try to answer them.

Dear MinnieMex: what's a ticker?. Also, kinda anxious about the hotel seizures around the Tulum beach - very nervous-making, eh?

Welcome to the board!!! Don't worry about hotel seizures...buy "cancel for any reason" trip insurance and you'll be covered if needed. I doubt you'll have to use it for that reason at LC, though.

Definitely trip insurance tomorrow, but I'm not going to worry, it's counter-productive to my pre-vacation high that I intend to feed and oxygenify for the next 241 days :eat-drink:.

I see you found your ticker!! Love Tickers!! My son was kind enough to humor me and do a "custom" one for lucky me!! Now for the enjoyment of anticipation!!

Every time I see the day go down one, I get a grin. I've tickered the other GarGoyles too. It turns the waiting, the planning, the anticipation into a team sport.

Lynette, just a quick question - where do you get "cancel" for any reason; as much as I've travelled I have not run across that one. Would be curious to look at it. JUST in case.
thanks

Well never mind, I did see it on Insure MY Trip. Not bad for 44 bucks esp. when planning so far ahead!

Gracie...only a few companies offer it. We insured with Travel Safe for our fall trip...I also think TravelGuard offers it. Travel Safe was more bang for the buck.

Thanks Lynette, but too late for me. When I checked it had to be within l5 days of first deposit... I made mine back in Feb!!

So we decided no matter the airfare, we will be spending Xmas in Tulum! Air will cost more than the week at La luna (at the moment) but I
doubt if it goes much lower! :o
With what they are charging out of VA, I could spend another two weeks somewhere in Tulum, but oh well, it's our Xmas present...

Got to look on the bright side; :star::star: We will be sipping some champagne (hope I can find it) under the stars of Tulum Xmas eve. That, in itself, I guess is worth a small fortune.

..and I have Xmas eve reservations at Herchero (sp??) Yippee (The ONLY plan I have made so far)..
Ending with a couple of nights in PM at Rancho sak ol. That was only $99/night during high season.

Definitely will be eating in the Pueblo the remainder of the trip:D

Our first time-- so why not blow the bank --- it's just :dollarsign::dollarsign::dollarsign::dollarsign::d ollarsign::dollarsign:
(and I just planted some trees, so it must be growing:crossfingers:0

And all the info I've received from the experts here on the forum (and the newbies already gone and come back) is worth its' weight in gold.

MUCHAS Gracias,
Gracie

Does anyone know what restaurants are near Cabanas La Conchita.... or for that matter, restaurants, little stores for beer & ice, etc. Also is taking a drive south to Sian Ka'an, finding a quiet beach and a little restaurant possible/likely? Anything anyone's got about CLC and the area would be of largelarge use to me in trip planning. Muchas Gracias por su ayuda.:sun:

Do you have a map of the beach road? There are several available (at Sac-be among others), and they'll help show you some relative distances.

Conchita is in the little "beachtown" area, where there are several restaurants and shops and such within easy walking distance. Like a little village, and Conchita is right in the heart of it.

What do you mean by a quiet beach and a little restaurant? Conchita is on its own little beach, shared only by one or two other places and has its own restaurant. Do you mean an even more private beach with a restaurant? When you get pretty far south on the beach, things are pretty empty, but anywhere with a restaurant is going to have people.

Thanks for both the info and, before replying, I read through your March/Tulum. You're a masterposter! Great descriptions, imagery - the complete ceviche :star:. I've copied and pasted into my Tulum sections.

Thanks, Marjan. Were the pictures still tiny? There was a problem with Shutterfly making a change to their site and I heard that all of my previously-posted pictures suddenly turned into thumbnails. Still, glad the writing part helped!
