Hello all

We are planning a 2 week visit in November. We stayed on Isla Mujeres last year and fell in love with Mexico again
My Newbie questions are
Any recommendations on beachfront accommodations with large rooms for less than $100/night November

What about downtown? Can one walk from downtown Tulum to beach?

The classic bargain-basement place on the best part of the Tulum beach is Cabanas Tulum. Two beds in every room, tons of storage, surprisingly comfortable beds. Total lack of style and some maintenance issues (peeling paint here, missing grout there, broken fixture over there) and bad beach furniture, but real cheap and in a great location, and big patios you can hang hammocks on and hang out. Really, it's a great deal.

If you want something with more style/ambience, your price point will be a bit of an issue if you want beachfront.

You can't really walk from the pueblo to the beach, it's several kilometers and it would be nasty hot anyway.

I strongly recommend renting a car for the whole time, gives you lots of freedom and even though it's expensive, it's worth it for me.

However, a lot of folks have successfully used taxis their whole trip and been very happy.

If you're going to be car-less, you might want to check out the hotels in the central beach-town area, from Copal to Zamas. Much more to do by foot there and easy to pick up taxis into the pueblo. The hotels are nice, but the beaches are more "pocket" beaches, with rocky outcroppings on either end, not the miles-long wide open spaces you'd find farther south (like at Cabanas Tulum).

Do you have a map? Sac-be.com has one, but there are a number of others that someone else might post for you.

Once you get a map of the beach hotels, from the ruins down to the Mayan Grill (aka Nacho's on some maps) is what we consider the "north beach" area. Some fun places up that way. From Copal to Zamas would be the central "beachtown" area with shops and such but with the pocket beaches.

From Maya Tulum all the way south to the Sian Ka'an biosphere is all wide open beach.

Have fun figuring this all out! :)

I agree with Beachreader..a car is the only way to go if you would like to stay at the southern end of Tulum beach. If you aren't renting a car, I would suggest La Vita E Bella, on the north end of the beach road. GREAT Beach, closer to town for less expense in cab fares back/forth, and several restaurants and beachbars very close by. A bargain price too, at $110 a night.

Second choice would be Cabanas La Conchita, only because it is just a bit more expensive at around $130 a night, and because it is a small pocket beach, as opposed to a long stretch of white sand.

Here's a map with the hotels as they are found along the road. There are a few I missed, but it is complete for the most part.

Cabanas Tulum is the best deal in Tulum right now, as long as you don't need style or luxury..cause there isn't any of that stuff there..but with every room beachfront on one of the best stretches of beach in the world, who needs luxury?

Xi Cho, at the southern end, next to LVL is a GREAT deal at $80 a night..they don't have a restaurant, but that's not a problem with several to choose from within walking distance along the beach. Do a search here on TI for some pics and other information about them..the grounds are totally cute and the cabanas are decorated tastefully..there's only 2 of them, so you would basically have the place to yourselves!

Wow, I didn't realize La Vita e Bella has rates that low, $110 is a great deal for those rooms if they're the cabanas right on the beach, of which I think there are only four or five now. In looking at their website, they didn't seem to distinguish between those cabanas and the other rooms they might have back off the beach.

I might just have to send them an e-mail once I figure out when I'm actually going down. That's a great beach and a really good location with Mayan Grill and Mezzanine (and Don Cafeto's de la playa and Zacil Kin and El Paraiso) in walking distance. Good (if Italian) restaurant on site, too.

Not too much I can add to what has already been said. I did notice that you are going for 2 weeks. Did you want to split your time between two or more places?? There are accommodations further south that are more remote. Would you like a few days there?? I am sure your price point would not be a problem there. There is Xamach Dos down the BP road, and also Punta Allen. It is your trip ~ what would you like??

You might also like to post your questions over on the "General Info" forum, as more people hang out there. We all have our favorites!!
