Can you guys tell if this is Tulum? I can't tell what the sign says at the beginning.

The text on the page says Cancun but I don't think so.

That sure looks like Tulum, with the water. I froze the frame with the sign at the beginning, but I couldn't read the top piece, which is probably the name of the place. It does mention beach club, restaurant, cabanas, which all sounds like Tulum. Maybe La Zebra? Though I don't think they call themselves a beach club.
Definitely not Soliman, which I think is where they film a lot of them.

I can't pinpoint it, but the wave action certainly looks like somewhere along the tulum beach. That could apply to a lot of places south of Cancun, though.
I froze the sign frame too, but that could just be a prop. I'm sure there's a Kenny fan that will know!

I'm checking with a few sources "in the biz" to find out where they shot this one. I know someone over at Corona's ad agency (Cramer-Krasselt) and will try to find out. I do know that Corona ads have been shot on both the west coast and east coast of Mexico (Isla Mujeres, Solimon Bay, Rosarita Beach, Paamul). I doubt the beach sign was a prop and it looks to me like it starts with "E". I also noticed the stranded boat on the beach is called "El Caches" if that helps jog anyone's memory.
Interesting that Corona decided to partner up with KC...they're so different...for example, only one gets better when the cap is removed! :D

I'm so glad we have a business insider to get the rest of the story!! Thanks, Lee. :)

I thought it was El Paraiso's sign. I'm pretty sure it isn't LaZ cuz they generally have the wacky zebra on their signs. Oh, and the boats are just like the ones down by Don Cafeto and Zacil Kin.
Wait! Does it say Casa Magna on the top?

Wow...great detective minds....I was just going to guess Casa Magna. Maybe Kenny and the Corona crew are the banditos that took it over.....JK. Can't wait to get the skinny from Lee, on the shoot.....your thread has consumed me with curiosity this morning, Doug.

Man, no kidding Lynnette. My brain was hurting. I kept rewinding that video and finally got a decent screen capture. The beach and the water looked so familiar. OK, back to your regularly scheduled surfing.

Good catch! I thought it looked familar (the font), and that would explain why there wasn't much around in the background or on the beach.
And didn't someone say they'd seen a film crew there recently (OK, not real recent, but a few months ago)? Though I suppose with modeling shoots and the like there are film crews there often.

Doug...good job...you beat me to the scoop! Yes, the photo shoot was in Tulum at Casa Magna. It took place in February with KC staying there for two days. Corona is a big sponsor of his Poets & Pirates tour and this was part of the deal. The :30 commercial started airing in mid-May and will continue for a couple months...you might catch it on Letterman, Kimmel or Conan.
My friend was not on the actual shoot but forwarded me this shot:

That is some "work" I could handle. Heck, if I got paid an engineer's wage to rake seaweed I would head south.

Looks like maybe the south end of the property of House 1, on the way to House 2.
And I'm with you, Doug, think we could sell ourselves as the wildly overpriced seaweed-raking crew?

Yes, Indeed, KC was in Tulum to shoot the commercial, and I have heard via the rumor mill that some of the footage is going to be part of his next video...which of course, with his "Old Blue Chair" it's supposed to be the Caribbean, not Mexico (yes I know it's the Caribbean coast of Mexico, but I hear he's partial to the islands)...but definitely "On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful."..:D
Nope, no rakin' the beach for me, I want to be the girl that spends all day pouring the Corona out in a bucket and pouring in the Negro Modela..lol...they do that because it's dark and shows up better on camera...I could then assist with emptying the bucket!:D:D:D

hey doug your quest today drove me nuts also, Kevin is a huge Kenny fan and is a club member. Since he is at work I did my own investigating and checked out Kenny's club forum and the commercial was filmed on Maroma beach near the jungle close to Belize and Tulum. Great work everyone.
We have the count down to Yet another great Kenny concert in Detroit in August.

"Maroma beach close to Belize and Tulum"? That doesn't make sense.
The resort called Maroma did come to my mind, but it's pretty far north, up near Puerto Morelos, and the beach totally looks like Tulum to me. And Belize is pretty far south of Tulum.

11th June 2008, 05:08 PM
Ok, now I am confused. It's what...200 miles between the Belize border and Tulum? And Maroma Beach is in Punta Bete/Xcalacoco area..north of Playa. Guess they moved around quite a bit?

No problem Sol..I guess to people in the club who haven't visited the area, Tulum would be in the general vicinity of Belize..:D:D:D
That's definitely Casa Magna's signage in the still shot from Doug..Maybe they all stayed at Maroma..lol..it's a swanky high priced little place...with an gorgeous beach, just not as stunning as Tulum. That's the place Kelly Rippa took over with her brood a few weeks back..and she told everyone she went to Tulum..heehee.

gail I definitely agree with everyone about the location, I guess for most people they know where Cancun is but not Tulum (you know the best kept secret) Also dont know Maroma beach.
But still what a great Quest today, thanks Doug.

Not to be a thread Pirate, but last night on HDNET chan. featured Bikini Beach ... and it was filmed at Amansala, I called my wife in and we watched the show most of it was the 3 girls doing the Spa thing, but they rode bikes down the beach road, stopped at a market for refresments. Good beach shots, dang I miss that place.

I wonder where they stayed and how many villas they needed. If Corona prices jump, blame it on Maroma. :D

Excerpt from this web page http://www.cybergrass.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5209:
"Kenny Chesney is, in terms of attendance, the top touring act in North America over the past five years, in any genre," said Ray Waddell, Executive Director of Content and Programming, Touring and Live Entertainment, Billboard. "As the impact of traditional advertising models decreases, sponsors are increasingly looking to live music as a way to reach consumers in an efficient, targeted manner. Country Music fans are very highly regarded by brands as loyal, active consumers. Given the images of both, in my opinion, Chesney and Corona are a natural fit."
The partnership that Chesney inked with Corona doesn't end Sept. 13, when he plays his last date on this tour in Indianapolis. "This will be a seven-year deal, including a five-year tour sponsorship," said Clint Higham, VP, Morris Management Group, which manages Chesney. "We already filmed the first two commercials down in Tulum, Mexico, a few months ago."
"We approached Kenny's team a while back about the idea of exploring various projects that might be a good fit for both Kenny and Corona," said Timm Amundson, VP of Marketing, Corona Extra and Corona Light for Crown Imports. "As we began these discussions, it became very clear in very short order that this would be a perfect fit for both parties. And we just kicked things off this year."
"The term 'partnership' really is the most accurate description of the relationship between Kenny and Corona in that it goes well beyond your standard tour sponsorship," Amundson continued. "The partnership involves a whole range of activities, including advertising campaigns, digital initiatives and retail programs. In fact, we introduced the TV commercials with Kenny this spring." "Corona is something Kenny has always been identified with," Higham added. "They are selling the same message we are. They get our vision and we get theirs as well: Corona personifies escape."

Hey! I think the important thing is Kenny was in one of our favorite
spots on the planet!!! That says a lot about where his heart is....although he may have not had anything to do with the location for the shoot. I would think the vibe in Tulum would be similar to other places Kenny frequents...?? Although we have not been to BVI or USVI ......yet!!! For any of you Kenny fans here are some pics from Ford Field in Detroit on August 2!!! Not great quality but we were there and had a blast!!!!

Our favorite part was when Kenny sang "There goes my life". The day before we left for Detroit we packed up our oldest (22) daughter's car and she headed off to Jasper, Alberta ("....headed off to the west coast...") by herself on a 4 day drive to start a new job!
Follow the blue line!

Thanks so very much for the concert shots!!!! I too am a BIG KG fan..love his music. I remember several years ago before the CMA's there was this huge discussion about how KG was overlooked for recognition and what a shame it was because he has amazing talent.. Not anymore..his talent is now totally recognized.
Maybe we should just ask him where he was...lol.
My favorite of his music is "Be as You Are"...except for the driving on the wrong side of the road thing, that song take me right to Tulum...actually, now that I think about it, even the driving on the wrong side of the road applies..lolol!

I did see a (comparatively) big film crew at Casa Magna when we were there
last February. I mentioned it to Beachreader. Mr. Mariposa and I work in film production. We've worked on ALOT of commercials..I'm an Art Director (on the production side not agency..fyi Lee..) and Mr. has a scenic company. They build sets, custom props and do special effects. So when we saw the big film trucks and generators down there we were like, Get us outta here we're on vacation!!:eek:

Mariposa, do you think that could have been this ad? Or maybe some other ad? How soon do they get finished and on the air/YouTube? I mean, is it feasible they'd be filming in Feb. and have it all cut down and up on the internet by early June?

Gale any song is a fav. of Kevins he honestly listens to him ALL the time.I think its the whole island vibe Kenny always seems to have that we love so much.....can't get enough lol.....
