Hola amigos, I`m new to this thread and just wanted to jump in and see what everybody is talking about. I live in Punta Allen which has become the hot spot at the end of the jungle road through the Sian Kaan biosphere. The annual Cuzan fishing tournament is June 13 to 15 and we`re looking forward to having a lot of new visitors. If anybody has any questions about our little village, I`ll do my best to help!
Saludos cordiales todos!!!

Welcome Serenity. I have a very close friend with that name. The fishing tournament you speak of has been discussed on this forum and I would love to come but I just returned from Tulum and need to save my vacation for my October trip.

Anyway, don't be a stranger. It's very nice to have people "in country" on the forum. We value your input greatly.

Serenity...............have we met before?
jejejeje, I always wanted to use that line.
Seriously, I will be there for the week, not fishing though, just hanging out for the fun.
So I guess there is a good chance I'll see ya, Right?

Hello - I'm new to this one too. How long would it take to drive from Akumal to Punta Allen? What kind of food / beach bar type options are there around? Looking for cheap + local.

Hola amigos, you can drive Akumal to Punta Allen in about 2 hours depending on how often you stop. Punta Allen has several restaurants and bars scattered along the beach. Muelle Viejo, Bonefish, Cuzan`s just to name a few. If you`re planning on staying in Punta Allen, there are several hospadajes. You can find some of them on the net, like Casa Ascension, Cuzan, Serenidad Shardon, Posada Sirena, Mexico Fishing Adventures, others like Boyas, Doña Lupita`s aren`t on the net but have nice rooms to rent. Depends on what you`re looking for!

Gracias amiga! Not sure how expert I am but after 9 years here, if I don`t know the answer to something, I generally can find somebody who does!
I look forward to being a part of this forum community.

A BIG Heartfelt Welcome Niki! I can't tell you how great it is to have yet another member from down the little dirt road to guide us!

Right off the bat, I have to ask a question: How can I visit the Choc Mool Ruins without staying at Playa Blanca or Sol Caribe?

Next question: There are (or were) some little A-Frame Cabanas in Punta Allen..do you have any info on them, how to contact the owners, rates etc.

It's great to have another local on the board as more folks are heading down the road to your "neck of the woods". I've not been to Punta Allen but am looking to remedy that very quickly. I appreciate the hotel possibilities...we're looking to stay at a very basic place (aka cheap-clean-around $50/night). Just out of curiousity, what do you think are some of the better values in accomodations down there?

Hola amiga, Thank you for the warm welcome. Chac Mool is a longgggg boat trip from Punta Allen though doable. We also run a tour up the backside of the island to the ruins at Muyil. You might want to check with Cesiak on their tours as well. It`s a great outfit and they`ve been doing some good works in the Sian Ka`an. A-frame cabañas in Punta Allen? Can you be a little more specific in location? There were some in town but they got blown down in Hurricane Dean. The only cabañas on the beach are Cuzan`s. You can find them on the net by inquiring at fishcuzan@aol.com. Let It Be Inn doesn`t exist anymore. Their cabañas are in ruins. Serenidad Shardon has lodging on the beach. Las Boyas has airconditioned rooms on the west side of town near the lagoon. Casa Ascencion is a lovely little place with it`s own restaurant. Posada Sirena has a couple little cabañas too just not on the beach. There`s a new place just north of town called Costa del Sol who just opened some cabañas on the beach. I need to go visit them to see what they have. Prices vary from 50.00 usd a night and up. Hope this helps!

Hola amigo, Thanks for your warm welcome too. There`s a range of lodging possiblilities in Punta Allen. Depends on what you`re looking for. In the 50.00 usd range, you`re probably not going to be on the beach. There`s a new hotel that`s just been completed next to Club Palometa but I still don`t have any info on it. Though if you do find a room at Viejo Chac or Casa Ascension, Serenidad Shardon`s beach is available for their guests. Various locals offer rooms in their homes like Doña Lupita but again they are in the center of town. Cuzan`s cabañas are rustic but right on the beach and the restaurant is convienent with good food. Think I`ll take a paseando and check what my neighbors are offering!

WELCOME to the board, Niki!!!
Thanks Lynette, I like the "little dirt road" description too. In reality, it`s become quite busy and potentially dangerous too. With the higher speeds, navigating the curves gets tough. "Watching out for the other guys" is the key phrase when traveling the road. There are some bumpy spots and with the rains it`s only a matter of time until the potholes get bigger. There`s several new topes too. Great, grand pieces of rope to get your attention and slow you down. Problem is, the big trucks generally ignore them and just barrel on down the road. The jeep tours are pretty regular too. They maintain an average speed of 60 km and take up the whole road doing it. They come in around 9 am and leave around 4 pm. That`s when I take a break at El Crucero if I have to come home in the afternoon! Buen viajes!

Welcome to the board. It's already been said, but I'll second it that it will be great to have a Punta Allen expert on here :D It's one of the few places I didn't visit on my recent trip that I wish I would have.

Yea...a Punta Allen "expert", just what I need! I'm looking for a small vacation rental right on the beach anywhere south of Tulum for two weeks in December over the holidays. Since it will be for that long, a kitchenette would be nice. I've looked at all the usual suspects and wonder if you might have any insider connections/suggestions? Again, Benvenuto!! (No, it's not bad spanish, it's Italian...I'm a Italian Destination Specialist :) I'll look forward to any input you may have!
