Well, everyone knows I jacked up my last point and shoot while bicycling in Akumal. So I grabbed this one up this morning as a replacement.

www.woot.com (http://www.woot.com)

I know Polaroid is not exactly Nikon but I can't be trusted with a really nice camera. I've killed 3 in the last year. Anyway, where can I go to get a review or two. I know it's been posted before but help a brother out!

I hear ya Doug! During our trip to Sayulita last year, my sister slammed the cab door on my "work" camera.....broke the display, but still worked, until.....It got dropped in an xtra-xtra-xtra large margarita glass during a border-line drunken disagreement over the check. Try explaining that one to the boss.

I guess when Olympus says that their point & shoots are "all weather" it doesnt include Herradura with extra salt.

Doug,

So this isn't anywhere near as affordable as the one you posted, but it's what I bought for this years trip (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Olympus-Stylus-1030-SW-10-1-Megapixel-Digital-Camera-Silver-STYLUS1030SW/sem/rpsm/oid/204928/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do).

I liked that it was "waterproof to 30 feet" and drop-proof to 6 feet. It does not require any housing etc for the waterproofness.

They also have the 730SW model that is cheaper, but only rated waterproof for 3 meters or 9 feet. I like to dive down when snorkeling and personally scare the turtles, so I while probably not going down 30 feet, I will go under more than 9.

So the pros for this are waterproof, relatively shock proof, and still small enough to fit in your pocket (bicycling while doing so is ill-advised).

I have not given it the "Herradura and extra salt test" tho:D.

I fell in Paris and slammed the lens of my Canon PowerShotPro 1 into the curb. Luckily all that broke was the UV filter and I'm still using it! It was my first digital, a test camera to see if I wanted to switch over. I haven't done any damage to my dSLR ... yet.

But if you were on the scene with this Red Polaroid T730 Compact 7MP Digital Camera you’d have a perfectly tolerable photograph to remember them by. Now when we say tolerable, we mean it! This lovely Red Polaroid T730 Compact 7MP Digital Camera is the absolutely best technology to ever come from a bankrupt corporation currently owned by a law firm.

I'd be wary of the word tolerable. But the camera isn't expensive, so if you don't like the picture quality or you break this one - it's not a huge loss.

Any time you want a camera review, or to compare different cameras side by side this is the place to go: http://www.dpreview.com/

BTW: did you know that often times renter's or home owner's insurance covers your stuff when you are travelling? And sometimes, depending on your credit card, your purchases might be covered there too, within a certain time frame.

Oh yeah I was going to give my point and shoot recommendation:

Olympus Stylus 820
-easy to use
-great features
-not tequilla proof
-runs about $200 when on sale

OK! OK! You guys are going to drag it out of me. This is just a cheap camera which I need to bring to the ROT Biker Rally in Austin next weekend. I don't need any features or zoom or waterproof (maybe beerproof would be nice). All I need is a cheapo camera to take pictures of women who no longer have a need for their shirt. ;) I'm fairly sure that "tolerable" will suffice in this instance.

I would insert a picture here but would probably get banned from the forum. :D

But you might be needing a "wide angle" lens !

(Hey Lee - let's see your "smiley" for this one!)

As Kimba mentioned, www.dpreview.com (http://www.tulum.info/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dpreview.com), and also Steve's Digicams (no relation) at http://www.steves-digicams.com/ (http://www.tulum.info/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.steves-digicams.com%2F) is a good one. Once you find the camera review, click
ahead to "Steve's Conclusions" if you want to bypass the tech lingo.

Another tip, Doug, that I do: I have a Costco near me, and I bought a Panasonic point and shoot DMC-TZ3 before our trip that I used for the beach, and trips to the Pemex ( ha ha , say "Queso", Pendejo!) Costco has a 90 day return policy. I return the camera after I use it, and picked up the latest Panasonic, the DMC-TZ4 http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/panasonic_tz4.html (http://www.tulum.info/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.steves-digicams.com%2F) to use for another 90 days. Yeah...I know....but hey!, I have the latest technology and I can return it if it malfunctions or when a new and improved model come out. Just keep the receipt with the box and note when your 90 is up.
