Ciao! My husband and I will be spending two weeks over the holidays on the Riveria Maya and would like to rent a small cottage or house right on the beach, near Tulum or south of it. We were there in 2003 and rented a place up in Puerto Aventuras...too touristy and lousy beach. Anyone have any suggestions on where to look? Thanks!

There are lots of small, independent cabanas to be had in Tulum!! I would suggest starting on our FAQ & resource part of the forum and then when you have picked some that you think you might like come over to the "General" forum and ask away!! Lots more people hang out over there!!

We always want to know what you want & your budget, so post those when you ask your questions.

Thanks for the welcome! I have actually done alot of research, was hoping to find out some not so well known source...I will follow up with your suggestions later today. My husband would like to keep it under $200 a night, but I realize that is pretty difficult over the holiday season. Obviously, the more affordable the better when you're spending two weeks! Thanks again, I'll look forward to chatting with you soon!

I do know that Graceland was looking at the holiday season and everyone wanted a 7 day commitment. Search for her posts and you will see that she couldn't find anyone who would take them on a shorter stay - maybe she found someone for 5 days, I am not sure.

Thanks minniemex...I still haven't had a chance to go to the "General" page, or anything else...but since we will be spending 14 days there, the time period shouldn't be a problem, it will probably be finding the "just right place"! Funny, I'm an Italian Destination Specialist and it seems like finding the "just right villa" in Italy is not near as complicated as this! Thanks again!

Yep, finding the perfect place for the $200 an night during holiday season. That will be a toughie!! One that does come to mind and I just checked their holiday pricing was Casa Violeta.

I just don't remember what has been said about it.

The tricky part of this is going to be finding a place during the holiday season for $200 or so. Let's just forget about the cottage idea for a moment. The first place that comes to mind is La Conchita - their prices are not over-inflated during holiday season.

Next idea for a cottage/small house is Playa Selva which can be found on vacationrentals.com.
