View Full Version : Why I'm sorry I'm home from Tulum:

- The waiters at the Mexican restaurant where we ate last night (yes, on our first night home) don't speak Spanish.
- Real shoes cramp my feet, bras hurt, pants feel funny...why can't I wear my bathing suit every day anymore?
- My skin is dry, not smooth and/or sticky from sunblock, aloe lotion, the rain/salt spray.
- Sleeping without the constant noise from the wind and waves is no fun.
- I miss huevos motulenos (although my waistline doesn't).
- I miss my snorkel.
- Why did my cold go away the minute we landed and it's back the minute I'm home?
- I got way less groceries at the market yesterday than I got for the same money at Super San Francisco last Friday...

and the number one reason I'm sorry I'm home from Tulum:

- No cerveza for breakfast. ;)

(We had a superlative time at Cabanas La Luna (and elsewhere in QRoo)...trip report coming as soon as we have time to cull through over 1000 photos and I have time to write all our adventures!)

Woohoo! Glad you had a great time! I know, re-entry is hard. I felt the same way, especially about the SHOES! Ugh, putting on real shoes?!?!?!? Are you kidding me???? :D

Just have to start dreaming about the next trip! :D

You forgot a few things:

I feel like I need to put on makeup every day
Fixing my hair takes more effort than just putting on a hat
Waiters raise their eyebrows if you order a margarita at 10:00 in the morning

Too bad its not so comfy at home, but I guess that's what makes it a great vacation.

Phyllis -- glad to know I'm not the only one who suffers sandal-and-bare-feet-withdrawal!!

Farmboyswife -- ABSOLUTELY agree with your additions to the list!! I had to actually plug in a hair appliance this morning...;)

I absolutely suffer from closed shoe syndrome!! I cannot stand it when my toes are not free!! I even get teased here for "pushing" the open toe season!!

I am loving all the reasons!! So so true!!

So glad you had a great trip, and I can't WAIT to see your TR! Clearly you know how to get us all in the mood!

But for this one:

-- Why did my cold go away the minute we landed and it's back the minute I'm home?

Have you considered allergies? Same thing happens to me, every time, and I live close to the ocean here, but there's tons more pollen up here (NJ). I seriously got off the plane in March and sneezed. WTF?

I might really need to move down there after all!

If we were meant to wear shoes, we would be born with them already on our feet!

I HATE shoes...anything more than a flipflop and I am miserable...ranks right up there with heavy wool coats and parkas, gloves, scarves and sockhats!

I believe in the healing powers of Tulum myself..I was close to death when I stepped off the plane in late Feb. to meet BR...yes, I was the one on the plane who people were giving "the look" and wondering why I didn't just stay home..trying desperately not to spread my germs around the enclosed cabin as I sneezed and coughed my way to Mexico by air..lol.

That was a Friday, by Saturday afternoon I felt well..no more sneezing and no more coughing..but the minute my feet hit the sidewalk here at home upon my return, the illness returned.

Maybe it has something to do with the salt in the air and the water, or pollen, or it's just a place blessed with illness prevention and a curative, but whatever it is, it works!!!

I HATE shoes!!

I have a button that says if God had wanted us naked, he'd of had us born that way..........:p

I also hate shoes..........I made it through 2 weeks in the Pacific North West in flip flops just fine..........

I actually didn't wear shoes before I moved to Mexico, was famous for my toe socks and flip flops even in the snow. (I'm from the dry side of Washington).

One picture I wish I'd gotten, both Doug and I were barefoot at Hechizos...!:beerchug::burp::beerchug:

I got it dork! This one is us leaving Hechizo and walking back north to La Z. And by the way, we didn't carry any in our hands either. Straight in to the nicest restaurant in Tulum...SHOELESS!

I went to my favorite Mexican restaurant (actually Salvadorian) restaurant last night for two things which I miss dearly.

1) I miss someone bringing me fresh ceviche the way ceviche should be done. If you are in DFW look for a Glorias (https://gloriasrestaurants.com/home.php).
2) I miss trotting out my best "Hola! Como esta?" followed by best attempt to order using no English. The waiters at Glorias kindly allow me to struggle which earns him a little extra tip. :)

Other stuff I'm missing dearly.
3) Palm trees
4) Millions of stars combined with the the sound of waves (gotta get me a sound machine for my patio)
6) Sunrises

"Dork" is a term of endearment. :) I think I've read it also means whales penis, but uh don't mind that so much.

I can't believe how hard it is to readjust to "real" life...I really just miss TULUM!!! How is that possible after just one trip?

Anyway...I'm also missing free time...all of which right now is being taken up with working on my TR and making sure it's not TOO long...which stories to leave in and which to leave out? Same with photos...it's hard to decide. On the photo tip, I want to test here to see if I can succeed in posting a photo within a post, so here goes:

That's our view from our hammock at La Luna...ahhhhhhh...

Helly - rule of thumb on trip reports - the longer the better and the more pictures the better!! Stories, we love stories too! :beerchug::eat-drink::beerchug:
