First off I just wanted to say I have enjoyed reading all of your trip reports so so much! It has confirmed to me that I have picked the right location for a surprise trip for my husband next year! I know how much work goes into those reports so I wanted to say thank you!!
Now I guess I'll sort of introduce myself. I am one of those wander lust types. Passionate about seeing nearly the whole world :earth:. I think I have about 20 or so trips to various locations & continents at least 1/2 planned right now! :boat: My husband just laughs, rolls his eyes & says ok, tell me about this one. He enjoys the travel too, just not the planning. But I think that's half the fun!
Despite all the places I want to go I always return, sooner or later, to my first love (travel wise anyway) MEXICO! We spent our honeymoon almost 10 years ago up near Puerto Juárez, returned a couple years later and have since been to Cancun, Isla Mujeres, and several times to Roserito & Ensenata (both in Baja.) We love laying on the beach:sun:, but like a little adventure at times too. We are scuba divers:dolphin: , nature lovers:palmtree:, and we both love trying new foods, finding really good local places to eat & meeting new people! I absolutley love the mexican people. Their way of life seems so much better than ours sometimes. (Sorry, going a little nuts with the cute little icons. ;))
When thinking of our next trip & narrowed it down to a small house on Grand Cayman, Verana in Yelapa, MX (tiny town south of Puerto Vallarta) or Azulik in Tulum. I stumbled upon your site while researching & my decision was basicly made for me!! Tulum is soo beautiful with just the right amout of adventure, culture, amazing beaches, authentic food & rusticness! It seems to be as quiet & quant as Isla Mujeres once was (makes me very sad to see what it is like now.)
Sorry for going so long, but I am jsut soo psyched! Thanks for making my decision not only easy, but exciting as well!! I look forward to reading more reports, picking your brains and hopefully making lots of new amigos here!! :D

Welcome!

Verana was in the running for our trip this year, but I think Tulum fit us better.....and I LOVE Grand Cayman! It's a beautiful island and the people are wonderful. It definitely is less rustic, but the water, oh the water.....especially if you dive.

Thanks! I definitely want to do Grand Cayman one day, but I think the romantic & rustic vibe I get from Azulik are more what we need right now. It really reminds me of a place we used to escape to in Rosarito when we lived in So Cal that was really special to us. I miss Mexico! It's been to many years!!
BTW, I really enjoyed your report, read it yesterday. I totally get the need to get away without the kids. We only have one, but he's almost 4 & we haven't done that yet. I think it's time. :)

I am positive you are going to fall in love with Tulum!!

We've been to most of the places you've mentioned. Yelapa has changed so much, that the magic is gone for us...same with Isla. That's why we keep coming back to Tulum!!! The water is Caribbean gorgeous and you're going to love it for snorkeling/diving!! I don't think you'll regret a decision in favor of Tulum.
