Not sure how to get one of those tickers that people have showing the time left before they are in Tulum, but I'll tell you right now, I've got about two weeks! I'm pretty excited. I live in Merida Yucatan on the other side of the Peninsula with my partner and some friends are coming down from Seattle. 7 days on the beach...We are staying in Playa Selva and figuring out if we want to rent a car or not.
Here is a list of trips we have planned so far:
1. Coba/Punta Laguna/Campamento Hidalgo. I worked this last winter in the community of Campamento Hidalgo (between Coba and Punta Laguna) to train tour-guides for their trail around a lake. It's a great spot in the jungle with about 1 kilometer of paths passing many great trees, views and if you are really lucky spider monkeys. Can't wait to go back and check in.
2. Sian Ka'an. I have some connections to those folks that trained the community tour group for Sian Ka'an so we plan on taking their tour. I'm going to be working some more with a group in Calakmul so it will be great to see how one group is doing with community tourism.
3. Snorkeling. Where o' where should we snorkel? I've heard Soliman Bay, I'm thinking of making the two hour drive south to Mohuajual. I'd love thoughts on this.
That is 3 of the 6 open days. I'm sure we'll want a day or two just laying around...but any other suggestions for super rad trips? I don't have a need to do the cenote thing (have plenty around here in Merida) and I had considered the swimming with Dolphins idea, but kinda want to avoid any amusement park type places.
I can't wait just to bum around...drink coffee and trece lunas, a little thai on the beach at Mezzanine (no thai food here in Merida), maybe head up to the Tulum ruins. I've been to Tulum twice for short trips...and this website has tons of info for restaurants and bars etc. So any thoughts from current happenings on day trips would be greatly appreciated.
