Calling all our members around here!! Beachreader is coming to Minneapolis and we (Mariposa & myself & Beachreader) decided to have a small, or large, meet-up for some Mexican food and some great conversation!!
The night will be Monday June 16th and the place will be........???? Having a hard time coming up with one that doesn't involve a lot of "rush hour madness". I say this because the last time BR was here we decided, ok, I decided to head south across the river during rush hour. (Not a good idea)(OK, a really bad idea).
Anyways, the date will be June 16th and the time around 6-7!!
Lets have some fun!! Who can make it with us??
Updated list of who is coming:
Beachreader
Minnie & DH
Mariposa & DH
Patmex & ??
Susan (for drinks after soccer game)

I will be coaching a soccer game that evening but would like to stop by afterwards if it is anywhere close and providing you guys are still there. Acapulco up here on the north end has good food. There is one near Hwy 10 and Hwy 65.

Sure wish you could make it too Gale!! But schedule is dictated by Fran - maybe we can have another at the end of the month!!
The storms were all around us last night!! Really a stressful 3 hours!! Our kids were stuck half way home from here right in line for the second storm. We are only miles away from the worst touchdown which happened in Hugo, so really feel blessed!!

I know ~ we get there at least once a week!! Can't beat their price for a beer!! I was just looking for someplace more "central". Is your game at the NSC?? I lived some long days there!!

No it's in Coon Rapids, I've spent my fair share of time at NSC as well between state tournaments and now the USA cup. There was a Mexican place at 694 and Central, can't think of the name right now and I don't know if it was still there.
There are a lot of great Mexican places on Lake Street down by the Global Market but that area is more of a daytime visit for me.
I was driving through that storm yesterday on my way back from Wisconsin, listening to WCCO. I did need to pull over because the rain was so hard you could not see, it was kind of like being in a white out, listening to the path it sounded like it had gone straight through Champlin but all we got was the driving rain storm and some small hail.
Hugo is devasting to look at- those poor families. You are completely helpless during a tornadoe, there is nothing you can do to save or protect anything just hunker down in the basement and pray.

Hi guys, sorry somehow I missed this call-out. I'll be there! :)
Actually, I'll be wherever you guys tell me to be, 'cuz I got nothin' in the way of Twin Cities know-how.
However, I will ask my other friends in town who are big foodies and also big Mexico fans (in fact, I should invite them to join us if that's OK), see what they say.
Can't wait to see you all! :beerchug:

No way we can go(got a concert that night to attend), but I can make a few suggestions.... El Paraiso on the corner of 35th and nicollet is my favorite sit and hang type place. They have booze and great food and a big deck for outdoor seating. I always get the sopes which are big suckers on top of steak. Super easy to get to as well. If you're on 35 S take the 35th/36th street exit, swing a right at 35th and it's just 2 blocks up on your left right on the corner...
Another place without boozage though for the best tacos al pastor would be Hacienda Taquiria and there are 2 of them. The 1st is the big one at Clinton and Lake St. and the 2nd is in the kooky mexi-mall at Bloomington and Lake St.
For a more fine dining experience you have to check out "INDIO"... Ate there last night for the first time and had the whole Red Snapper(it was big). They debone it for you when they bring it to you... Jessie's and our friend Elizabeth's meals were yummy too. Elizabeth had the mole and I had to have a taste as I am a MOle lover and it was delicious. Google Indio for some more info. It's at Emerson and Lake St. just a couple blocks from Calhoun Square... Great Margaritas and to die for Mojitos. Good horchata as well. Going back soon during the day for coffee and chocolate tres leche cake. Can't wait. Maybe later today.... They also have tacos al pastor as an app, but didn't try it. I believe I'll be hitting their happy hour on a regular basis from now on thanks to what I read a the city pages site.
Have a good time...

Thanks for all the suggestions James!! I had El Pariso on my list but was unaware of Indio...... seems alittle spendy though... will see what others want. We definely want drinks, so the others are out.
Truly sorry you won't be able to join us!! What time is your concert?? Maybe you can join us for a drink before or after??

I'll cast a vote for El Pariso. I haven't been, but I've heard good things about it.
(((plus it's really really easy for me to get to)))
I'll be at work until at least 6 p.m. that day, and I work in downtown St. Paul, so I'm definitely open to other ideas, too.

Mariposa mentioned El Patio and Pancho Villa, both of which sound great to me. My friend suggested Indio, but I agree it's a bit high-end and seems a bit out of town. She won't be joining us, so up to y'all.
I'll actually be in St. Paul (Grand Ave.) for my afternoon appointment, so either city is fine with me.

Yay! What a fun menu, too, I like that some of it is in Spanish. And they have michelada! And horchata and jamaica, which is kind of neat; I've never seen those available in the States before, or maybe I just haven't noticed. :)
See you guys soon, and I hope the weather's good enough to sit on the deck!
Oh, the other thing I like is the painted sign over the door. There's something about that lettering and coloring that just says "Mexico" to me.

I was hoping to upload my one picture from the party before I responded:) but have been so busy at home getting ready for company!!
We all arrived at the restaurant without any hardships. Mariposa & DH were unable to join us, so it was me & DH (Fred), Beachreader, Patmex & Man (Mike), and Susan. We had wonderful food and we all forgot to take pictures. It was a beautiful day and we were able to sit outside and enjoy it. We had wonderful conversation and shared stories. It was a very enjoyable night for me and I hope for the others who were there!!:beerchug:
As Beachreader comes to the city two times a year, I think we will have to do it again!!

Hey, if patmex is a reporter, she could write up the event like a news piece! haha!
Sounds like you all had a lot of fun. Maybe I'll be able to join you for the next one!

Patmex could write up a piece if she weren't stuck in a law school classroom in L.A. for a 5-day seminar. Ends Sunday night. Fly home. Work Monday morning.
Waaaaa!
(a desperate plea for sympathy)

I forgot to mention that Susan brought her photo book to show us, and it looks amazing!! I really want to do one of those someday.
For those of you who remember her trip report, she had some really cool pictures, one in particular of a starfish under kind of ripply water that looked like a watercolor all by itself. It looks even better on paper!

Hey thanks Beachreader, I got really lucky on that shot and it looks even better on canvas.
For those of you that are looking for a way to make your photos more accessible off the computer this is a great way to do it.
