We're planning a trip in the winter of '09 and I have a million questions, but I thought I'd introduce myself first...
I'm Morgan and I live in Western Canada with my dh Paul and my 4 daughters Sage (9), Olivia (8), Enna (3) and Imogen (1.5).
We have made several trips to Mexico but only ever to the west coast. Our last trip (x-mas '07) resulted in 5 free airplane tickets.. so here we are, planning another trip!
I'm so happy to have found this board.
Morgan.

Welcome, Morgan!!!
I suggest you spend lots of time reading, reading, reading! There is a wealth of information here. Get accustomed to the Search feature (Minnie posted a "How to Search" over in the FAQ part of the forum), and then ask away!
How lucky to have some free tickets for another trip!!!!

Well your not new anymore. Glad to make your acquaintance. You have reached the be all end all when it comes to Tulum information. People are always coming and going. And the sharing of info is incredible.
I think you'll find the west coast of Mexico is more mountain and desert. The Mayan Riviera is more jungle and superior beaches. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone... this is so great!
I'm in a bit of a hurry to plan this trip (I know it's a long way off but it's due to the free tickets) and like I said I have a million questions. I did check out the search thread, and searched a few things but I'm still unsure.
Is it best to start a new thread for each main topic (ie. do we HAVE to rent a car?, which beaches are better for kids? etc.) or should I ask them here?
Thanks again,
Morgan.
I guess I'll add that we're really looking for a house or cabana or something that will fit us all and have a kitchen, we'd like to be right on the beach and maybe somewhere that's on a bus route (back to the no car thing). We're looking to rent for 2 weeks at least, maybe a bit more. We don't have a huge budget, if the house had an extra bedroom (like 3 altogether) my brother in law might come too which would help with the cost...

LOCOGRINGO.COM
has a great list of accomodations you might check that out to get an idea.
There's another one too, but it's escaping me...anyone?

To answer your questions it would probably be better if you posted them in the "general" forum, as most of our members hang out there!! There are few "houses" for rent on the Tulum beach, so it is good you have started looking so early!! Repost your questions over there and you will get a multitude of answers!!
Here is an easy link to that section - http://tulum.info/forumdisplay.php?f=2

One of the best homes along Tulum's beach is Zamna which will fit 6-7+ people. It's listed on locogringo.com as well as vacationrentals.com (where you can rent half of the house).
