OK so I've never had Sangrias like the ones in Tulum...so refreshing and unique. Thought they'd be great for a girls' get together.

I've been searching....but barely finding anything....

Here's what they look like...note the cool two-tone [like black & tan or tequilla sunrise] and no fruit slices.

From what I can come up with....

found this:
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 cup cold water
2 cups chilled red table wine
Ice cubes
Stir lime juice, sugar and water together until sugar is dissolved. Add wine and pour over ice cubes in tall glasses to serve.

then this homemade 'sour':
Fresh “sour”
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup boiling water
1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice

might be good on the bottom....

I had them at 3 different restaurants and they were all similar in idea although some better and some not as good....

wondering if brandy is mixed in somewhere? or if i'm missing other ingredients...

Ideas?

I found this one some time ago on a spanish recipe site. It's awesome!

Ingredients
3 1/4 cups (26 fl. oz) dry red wine
1/2 cup (4 fl. oz) Cointreau
1/2 cup (4 fl. oz) brandy
Juice of 1 large orange
Juice of 1 medium lemon
Juice of 1 medium lime
2 tablespoons confectioner's sugar
Club soda, to taste
1 small orange, sliced thin crosswise
1 small lemon, sliced thin crosswise
1 small lime, sliced thin crosswise

Mix the wine, Cointreau, brandy, citrus juices, and sugar in a large pitcher. Refrigerate overnight.

Immediately before serving, add in the club soda, orange, lemon, and lime slices. Serve over Ice.

You could obviously leave out the fruit and just squeeze in the juice..I think the brandy makes this just perfect!

I have always been confused about Sangria vs Sangrita...so are alot of people..here's what I found for Sangrita

Ingredients
2 cups tomato juice
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon fresh lime or lemon juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brine from a jar of green olives
Hot sauce to taste
Sea salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Preparation
Stir ingredients together, and chill at least 1 hour. Taste just before serving; adjust seasonings, if necessary.
GREAT chaser for Tequila or a dark beer, like Negra.

I make my fruity one with brandy also [an Emeril recipe...very time consuming but yummy].....but I'm really hoping to recreate the 'Tulumian' sangria, it wasn't as sweet. Is Tulumian a word, LOL.

I poured lime juice and a little sugar with ice and wine on top tonight just to 'test'.........BLECH....it was awful...

:boat: May have to go back and ask.

Sounds like a good party theme: Bring your best sangria and we will provide all the food that would go with the beverage...
Haven't made it myself..but look forward to the "perfected" one.

Great idea...The great Sangria Mix-Off...lol.

Trish..maybe you use a honey flavored brandy and leave out all but just a hint of the fruit..or hey..did that mystery ingredient that provided a bit of sweet without being overpowering happen to be Xtabentun? Not sure how the X would blend with the red wine base, but hey, I am willing to sample all creations until we determine a winner. Please provide a "Mix" report, complete with pictures!

ok, here's what I am thinking: Red Wine is sweet..amost too sweet at times for me. Mix it with all that fruit, and what you get is a fruity sweet punch. Sooo..I am going to change this to white wine..and marinate the fruit in it overnight with cinnamon and nutmeg..leave out the C. Sugar, mix a 1/2 and 1/2 blend of X and brandy..I used peach brandy last time, sweet but not berry sweet..omit the lemon juice and go for straight lime juice.

Will let you know tomorrow how this turns out..lol.

I was told that they use a simple sugar mix (2c sugar, 1c water) and mix that with the fresh lime juice - and lots of it - then just pour the wine in on top of that. I sometimes think it does matter what red wine you use but the less sweet the better I would think. I have tried and tried to match the Sangria's they make down there and just haven't been able to perfect it!! Man it is only 7:30 and I am jonesing for a Sangria!! LOL

Whoa, I'll have to copy down this recipe and give it a shot :D Sangria is the only time I can stand to drink wine.

I wouldn't consider red wine 'sweet'. I know the stuff they sell at wineries in the midwest are VERY sweet; but I wouldn't consider them typical.

Thanks think...I was thinking making a simple sugar would be better because it's dissolved. Glad you got the scoop. What did you find went best with the lime juice sugar combo?

I suppose I'll have to play around and try many recipes....oh how I suffer for my research.

Now if I could get my hands on that sugar press from La Z....mojitos!

1 bottle red wine (I use a Merlot)
3/4 cup rum
1 cup OJ
1/2 lemon
1/2 lime
1/2 orange
1/2 cup sugar

1) Chill all ingredients (including wine).
2) Combine sugar and rum in a pitcher. Mix.
3) Cut lemon, lime and orange in to half slices. Add to sugar and rum. Chill for 2 hours to let flavors blend.
4) Crush fruit with spoon.
5) Add wine and OJ. Stir.

I like to keep it simple. Real OJ and decent red wine in a tall glass with ice. Maybe that isn't a real sangria but it tastes great.
