Well, we have a three day weekend coming up... May 24, 25 & 26. Amanda and I are taking the Waverunner out to for some fun in the sun! We're thinking of going to Laughlin, Lake Mead, Havasu, or Parker (Colorado River area), we haven't decided just yet.
Lake Havasu:

How many of you live in the California / Nevada / Arizona areas and would maybe wanna come out to play? I hear the water in many of Lake Mead's coves are very similar to Tulum waters, and I KNOW that the Colorado river around Parker is "cenote blue". As long as you pay for your own gas and you can ride the Waverunner too!

So, if anyone's interested, let us know as we'll be heading out attaway Friday night and returning Monday.
DougSR, I know it's a hell of a drive from the Lone Star State to West Arizona, but if you wanna bring the boat or just come one down....... you're welcome!!

Man that sounds awesome! Wish I was a tad closer. My best buddy is from Huntington Beach and says Havasu is a mondo party. The Mastercraft will certainly see the water this weekend.

Wish we could haul our boat to Colorado. Your lakes blow our sad brown Indiana lakes away.
We do often go to Brookville which is near Cincinnati and really lovely.

Yea, Havasu, Laughlin, and the lower Colorado River area tend to go off pretty much every holiday. On Havasu there's Copper Canyon where boats tie together to make one giant platform and people just go from boat to boat drinking, meeting people, hanging out, whatever. It get a little too wild for me nowadays, I'm past the crazy days, but just a few short years ago.... well, that's another "guys' night out" story.

Hey Trish,
Hauling the boat all the way to the California/Arizona border from Indiana... now THAT would be something! It would be something I WOULDN'T recommend unless your car runs on rainwater.
Many of the lakes out here are actually very clear and azure blue, especially Lake Mead which is just below Grand Canyon. If you pull into some of the bays away from populated areas you'll think you're back in Tulum, but with drier air and much much less vegetation, as in zero!
By the way, you have beautiful children. I myself have a 15 year old (from my previous marriage) (that's him in my avatar) who attends 9th grade at the High School where I work, and now Emily on the way.

Rub it in some more why don't you? LOL.
There's a lake in Michigan big glen lake that I'm hoping to rent a cottage one of these days that's supposed to be clear and caribbean blue.
So jealous...
15 year old and baby....fun!! fun!!

Trish, we used to do houseboat trips (with about 6 ski boats tied up alongside) in Lake Cumberland, KY and Lake Norris, TN. Really beautiful areas. Early morning barefoot runs, then slalom, then wakeboarding, then, when the water was good and chopped up, we'd all chill in the sun and drink beer and float around while some crazy folks would go out tubing. Good days, those.

Cumberland is experiencing low water levels due to work on the dam, but it's still a great place to be for water sports, houseboats are still available for rental etc. Some of the best fishing ever experienced on Cumberland (known for it's striper fishing) has taken place since the water levels have been dropped.
It gets REALLY crowded out there on holiday weekends, I avoid it during those times, but we love Cumberland and don't stay away too long. There's alot of history behind what went into creating the lake, an entire town still stands 100 ft. below the surface.
The view from our cabin, on a point in Connelly Bottoms, so we have water on both sides and easy access to the lake

We have a pontoon, perfect for finding a secluded cove and hanging out for the day

And of course, the "boys" enjoy the lake as much as we do, other boaters love seeing these guys with their own floats..lol. Gotta shut the motor down in an hurry with them though, the minute you slow down, they hit the water runnin'..lol

Trish..come on down..or is it over?:D My boys used to spend alot of time camping at Brookville..it's close but I haven't spent much time there..they do have a pretty good beach area though! Brookville lake, and all the others around here will be hopping this weekend..we will be spending our weekend at my oldest son's, a lake, a grill, some cervesa and the usual gang..but the only boat we have here is a little ole' row boat..lol. The grandkids love fishing, and we enjoy the patio overlooking the lake..watching them fish..lol.

Guess we are a bit spoiled, having the Ohio River and so many great little lakes in this area..always something to do on the water.
If you ever get the chance, you should check out Williamstown Lake too..it's small but it's a great place for water skiing, camping and there are alot of cabins for rent. It's about 35 minutes south of Cincinnati, right off I75. (Yes, I am from the southern mid west, we describe distance in minutes, not miles..heehee)

Gale, wow, I didn't know you had a cabin on Cumberland! We used to joke that the skiing was great there if you could keep from getting a church steeple up your backside. :D Some guys used to do some diving there, said it was really fascinating and creepy seeing the town down there under the water.
We tended to avoid 76 Falls on weekends because it was packed with crazy drunk people and the whole girls showing their boobies thing, but it was a right of passage we took rookies to. Beautiful area on a weekday, though, completely different place.
Your doggies are so cute on that raft! True teamwork, both of them getting on there at the same time; I'd love to see that.

So Gale and beachreader, are you both from southern Ky? I'm in Louisviile now, but lived in Lexington for almost 20 years. We'd go occasionally down below Wolf Creek dam and fish for trout. Haven't been since they drew down the water level, though.

It's a shared cabin Fran, I so wish it was all mine..we call it a cabin, but with it is actually much larger than my house..lol. Several of us got together and bought it several years ago, so we have a place to stay when we are down there, and don't have to pull the boats, jet skis etc. back home with us each time.
the guys use it more than the rest of us do, striper fishing, but during the summer, I try to go down at least a couple of times. My granddaughter is there now with other family members..I should have gone too, but I don't want any part of the holiday crowds...lol. Can't see the water for the boats.
Ken..I am in Northern Kentucky, about an hour from you, outside Cincinnati.
It's about a 3 hr drive for me to get to Connelly Bottoms..cause you know, there's no good way to get there from here except the country backroads when you leave the highway. LOL. Dont' let the low water dissuade you from going...the lake is in great shape, fishing is the best in years, and it's really had no effect on boating or watersports..except there aren't the crowds there that are normally around on weekends. I kind of hate to see them raise the water level to normal once the work on the dam is finished!
With several new KY members, Think is also in Louisville, we should have a get together of our own..We have a couple of Cincinnati area members here too..Toni doesn't live too far from me..how 'bout it you guys, want to take over a Mexican Restaurant and pretend we are in Tulum?
Or better yet, I'll host, provide the cervesa and the tequila, some salsa and guac..you guys bring a Yucatean dish and come on over to my house!

KyKen, I'm born and bred in NJ, but I lived in Columbus, OH, for almost 10 years. That's where I hooked up with the crazy boat people who went to KY and TN all summer long.
I had a surprise b-day trip for my boyfriend at the time. He knew we were going, just thought we were getting the small boat with a couple of other people. I had also gotten a large boat with 15 more people, and we weren't supposed to meet up with them until the push-off. We almost pulled it off, but when we pulled into that one big store where you can buy beer (stupid dry counties), he ran into another small truckload of our group. He still didn't know it was all for him, though, so it still kind of worked. I really miss those days, much as I love what I do now.
