I'll be taking three friends on a Yucatan Joyride next March Break. It'll be their first time in Valladolid/Merida/Izamal/Tulum. I'd like to get suggestions for the best beachfront palapa hotel to stay in at Tulum (2 huts). I've stayed at Retiro Maya, but want to stay with them in something that is new to me also. Thanks in advance for all assistance.:sun:

Tell us what you would like in a lodging, similar to Retiro Maya, something more along the line of a hotel type lodging. etc.

We (group of 4 women) would like: under $150 a night, on the beach, electricity not important, clean, hot water, restaurant/bar would be nice or resto/bar very near, 2 twin/doubles in each of 2 huts (we will sleep together if necessary, but prefer twin/doubles... we're not that close), and it goes without saying: boutique hotel style, small, great staff, unrocky, sand beach - the classic Tulum small hotel. They've never been before and I want them to experience the essential Tulum palapa hotel. One of the girls has NEVER been outside the province. Again, thanks for any and all assistance.

Well, you will be traveling during high season, which makes the $150 somewhat harder to find. I would suggest La Luna ~ we have had wonderful reports on them ~ Wow, it is really hard to suggest a place as we like them all!!
Here is a link to all the web-sites we have collected - since you have until next spring take a look at all and then when you have narrowed down your choices, ask away and we will be more than happy to answer questions!!

Another good resource for rooms is http://www.hotelstulum.com/beach-hotels.htm
When ready to ask your questions or share your choice with us, go over to the "General Info" catergory!!

You mentioned "province", does that mean you're Canadian? If so, do you mean $150 US or Cdn? Given the strength of the loonie these days, maybe you'll get more bang for your buck? I don't know how it works with pesos, though.
Anyway, as Minnie said, $150/nt in March is going to be a challenge for the "nicer" places along the beach. Basically, I guess you're asking for <$300 for the four of you, which might be one way to look at it.
I would look at the Tortuga unit at Hamaca Loca and ask them for an extra bed. It would be close quarters for four women, but it's a very cool unit, and each person would have a single bed. And you'd save lots of money because Tortuga isn't anywhere near $300/nt. If you want more room, you could get both Tortuga and Caracol (or Pirata, but I think that only has one bed) but invite the two in the other unit to hang out at Tortuga, which has a porch and such.
Also check Tierras del Sol, right next door.
I totally love Cabanas La Luna, but I don't think you'll be able to get beachfront there for $150/room. They do have a building in the back of the property (100 yards from the beach) with four bedrooms that I think might be in your range. It's got a cool hang-out porch, too.
Om has very large rooms, 2 beds each, for I think $150 or so, but they're not exactly beachfront. I mean, the property is beachfront, but it's narrow and the restaurant takes the prime spot, the rooms stretch out behind the restaurant. Nice rooms, though, quite reasonable for their size and really nice people (and a fabulous restaurant). You can ask them for their "oceanview" rooms, of which I think there are one or two.
In March, nights should be cool enough to handle being slightly off the beach, and Om and La Luna have ceiling fans.
Check out Hemingway, they have a number of very nice rooms with two beds for decent rates.
Suenos has some rooms with two beds, but they're expensive, over $200/nt.
Make sure that you know if taxes and/or breakfast are included in the rates. Different places quote differently, and since tax is 12 or 13%, that can make a big difference.
Sorry for the rambling post, I'm stuck in an airport and have lots of time on my hands (well, for the next half hour or so).
