Hello! First post to this board - we were in Akumal last October and fell in love. We're thinking of staying in Tulum and aren't super fancy peeps - has anyone stayed at the Posada del Sol? If so, what was your experience.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Welcome to the board, Relaxing! Man that's a good name! I don't know Posada del Sol, but I think Beachreader might have mentioned it in her report. If she knows anything about it I'm sure she'll chime in.

Twasn't me, I've never stayed there. I think I mentioned it in the report because there's now a shop in front of Posada Lamar that's just like the one in front of Posada del Sol. They're owned by the same people.

Lamar is a bit farther south, more on the open beach. Del Sol seems to have really really nice rooms, but it's in the beachtown so its beach is pocket-beach style, with rocky outcroppings on either side. I may actually be confusing this in my head with Luna Maya, but they're only a few doors apart, so may well be the same beach anyway.

HhowieE - I know you from the other board! - you met my hubby Terry last October and gave us stuff before our trip. We had a short visit at your little place in paradise - met Antonio, etc. Can't wait until we can be there again!

Thanks PhyllisB and beachreader for the info and welcome!

I haven't stayed there, but checked it out. The rooms were nice, but the beach area rocky. I think Lamar (sister cabanas) has the better beach.

Great site! I'm going on my first trip ever to the Riviera Maya this July for my birthday week, with my sister, her 2 year old, my brother and his girlfriend. They all want to do the all-inclusive thing and stay at Akumal Beach Resort, which i'm into (for the snorkeling/diving), but i definitely want to take off solo for a couple of nights too, in Tulum, just to relax and maybe meet new people.

I'm also trying to talk them out of ABR and doing Hacienda de la Tortuga instead - how do people here feel about that place?

As for my time in Tulum, i'm looking for rustic, but luxurious. I'm looking at Nueva Vida de Ramiro, Cabanas La Luna, Ocho Tulum, Las Ranitas, La Zebra or Casa Violeta. Need help deciding! They all sound so great...decisions, decisions....

I also fell in love with La Selva Mariposa, but is that too insane to stay there in July, with no ocean breeze?
