Is there someone in Tulum who works with some of the many cabanas on the beach who can find me a place for this weekend?
I've emailed or sent forms in to many places, but those that respond are all booked up. There are so many that it takes a long time to submit a form to so many places to only find that they are fully booked.
Or if any hotel/cabana owner has a place for approximately 27 march - 1 april, please contact me through email or PM.
I would prefer a nicer place (at least very clean) on/near the beach.
Zebra - Ana y Jose area would be ideal (because friends who reserved before me will be staying there).
If I just end up going there without a reservation, where is good place to start to look?
thanks.

No one here works with the cabanas, though I'm starting to think there's a business opportunity there.
Wow, you are really talking last minute, leaving Thursday! You'll probably be able to find a place, but what's your budget? Where have you already checked?
I'd say, go with your friends and start there and work your way outwards. I'm guessing you have two sets of friends, some staying at La Zebra, some staying at Ana y Jose? They're fairly far apart, probably a little less than 2 kilometers walking, but it's definitely manageable and there are a lot of places in between.
You might have to move during the trip, and that's a hassle, and it'll take you the better part of a day to figure out where you're going to stay, but it is possible to find a place even at this late date doing the walk-up.
Cabanas Tulum is the least expensive place in that area, and it's right next to Ana y Jose. It's also the largest place in the area, with I think more than 30 rooms, so they often have availability when others do not. It's not the most stylish place in the world, but the beds are great and it's right on the beach for a very little money.

I'd follow BR's advice, start where your friends are and then just check the places nearby after that. Often places will have a spot open for a day or two here or there but not for the entire stretch, so you may need to be flexible enough to move around.
LocoGringo also does reservations for the Tulum area, as does a company called A Different World (???). You might try them. I think it would be http://www.locogringo.com and http://www.differentworld.com.

It takes a little bit of adventurous soul to head down sans reservations but I love it. If you must reserve something I think Phyllis hooked you up. But being a bit of a backpacking knucklehead, I say get there and find you any old place for one night. Then scout around and see if you can find your own personal Shangra La. :island: Cheers!

These guys give sound advice! It does take an adventurous side to show up without a room. Last Year at this time my wife, daughter, and I booked two nights and scouted for a place after arrival. It worked out great for us as we had a great time at Zulum. The suggestions from everyone are spot on. There are many great places to look around Ana's and Zebra. Access to a car would be very helpful.
Hell we leave April 4 and other than the first three nights and the last week I've got another seven days of rooms to find:rolleyes:
Good Luck,

ZmistT, one of the frequenters on this site is xamachdan (http://www.tulum.info/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftulum.info%2Fmembe r.php%3Fu%3D1481) and he actually owns Xamach, one of the beach resorts in Tulum. Xamach is a little on the small side, but Dan may have something available. It's worth a shot. I'd contact him privately through here and see what he's got.
Also, I was talking with Cabanas Copal just a few days ago and they still had some availability.

You'll be lucky to find a place if you went down there right now. Easter is the biggest time for Mexican vacations. Try one of the higher priced ones. All the low to medium ones will be booked. Even camping on the beach is hard right now.

I thought Easter Week was last week, Steve? Or is it a two-week span now?

Easter break has always been a two-week span. It's always over Easter weekend, but it could be the week before Easter (between Palm Sunday and Easter) or it could be Good Friday until the following week, OR, it could even be the whole two weeks. Depends on which school you go to. I vaguely remember mine being two weeks. It really only counts if you are 1.a student or 2. are the parent of a student whom you depend on for your vacation days.
I am neither.

Spring break varies widely for schools around here. In NYC, it was like a month ago, in northern NJ, it's not until late April, but other schools around here are out on the 31st. Most schools around here don't tie it to Easter anymore.
I believe Steve was talking about Easter week as it relates to Mexicans on holiday, and I thought that was all just the Palm Sunday-Easter Sunday week that counted as the Semana Santa. That's all.

Still looking for a place as I board the plane. (I thought I had a place through a travel agent but then somehow lost it.). Surely someone with a place on the beach reads the forum? Send me a pm or email through my profile and I'll check when I land. Thanks.
