Hi!
I just posted (on page 2 of my trip report) my review of the cenotes I visited two weeks ago.
http://tulum.info/showthread.php?t=1912
I didn't include Dos Ojos or Yal ku (does that qualify as a cenote?) because I didn't visit them on this trip... but I loved both.
There's only so much time, and so many cenotes.... which ones did I miss that I should put on my list for next time?
Thanks!

I feel your pain, missthesun! You covered a lot of cenotes....how far inland did you go? I know there are some around Valladolid, but don't recall the names at the moment.

I'm not sure exactly how far we drove inland from 307....but it definitely felt like miles..maybe 3 for Cenote Carocol? If anyone out there knows for sure... let us know. My husband says it only FELT like 3 miles because of the bumpy road.. he thinks it was less. I still say 3 or 4 even because I know I wouldn't want to walk it in the blazing sun!

If you're heading to Chichen Itza, I definitely recommend checking out Ik Kil and Dzitnup. When around Coba, head over to Koopiox cenote (it also has a zip line). Around the Tulum area, I'd suggest Cenote Calavera (just a mile west of the Coba-307 intersection) and the free "hidden" cenote by the Sian Ka'an arch. Further to the north, I'd say Manati cenote is worth checking out.

Ik Kil and Dzitnup???? very strange names. Now I'll have to go. Are they easy to find?

Yep, very easy to find. Ik-Kil is about 3kms from Chichen Itza, across the road from Dolores Alba on 180.

Dzitnup is about 7kms outside of Valladolid.
Did you know that there are over 3,000 cenotes on The Yucatan peninsula?

Love that line "did a search on Koopiox cenote and came up dry" :). Koopiox is just beyond the Coba ruins. If you continued going down the road it's probably another mile or so past the parking lot and Lake Coba. As I recall, the admission was about 25 pesos/person and the zip line at the cenote goes more than 200 feet. The zip line is more the reason to go to this cenote than the actual water/snorkeling opportunity. I think SteveO has been to this too and perhaps James as well. I don't think I'd make a special trip just for this cenote but if you're heading to the Coba ruins or even the Punta Laguna Monkey Reserve it would be worth stopping.
