Are there good places to get lobster and/or conch ceviche around Tulum?

The ceviche we've had in Tulum has never had lobster or conch in it...just shrimp and fish. The seafood platters are another thing though. They've got a great one at Mayan Grill (aka Nacho's).

I've read that conch is protected there and only available certain times of the year...it's not like the caribbean where everyone servces 'conch fritters'. I've also read that the lobster is not the same sweet lobster you may be used to but I know it's available in afew places in PDC...if you are venturing that way.

We had delicious lobster at Suenos on our first trip... if you were staying there you could arrange for dinner to be provided in the evening, and one day we decided to take them up on it. the property manager bought it fresh from some local fisherman that morning. But alas, Suenos is closed. That being said, I think there are probably ways to get lobster.
I bet Rene has some insider knowledge he can share!

Supposedly Punta Allen is a great place to get fresh lobster if you can make the drive!
I didn't have conch in Tulum, only in ceivche at a great out-of-the-way restaurant in Playa Del Carmen (La Pesca). Totally worth a stop on your way down, it was one of the best meals we had.

We had the conch ceviche at Oscar y Lalo's and it was great!

I think there is a lobster "season" when it can be harvested legally....fall through mid spring comes to mind. Many places will offer fresh lobster that is actually frozen during the off season. The lobster is different in Mexico, but very good. As far as taste, I like the smaller tails for sweetness, grilled in garlic butter. YUM!!!

Keep in mind, folks, the initial question was about ceviche. I'm wondering with the closing of O & L's beachfront location, are the same food offerings available at their highway spot? Has anyone been to their highway spot?

Ooops, got carried away. I guess you could always have a side of grilled lobster with your ceviche! :D

Sorry for phrasing my question the way I did. I do want to know about lobster in any fashion.

I didn't see any conch ceviche... nothing like the great conch ceviche you get in the Bahamas, anyway. (that's the only reason I would go back to the Bahamas!) The shrimp ceviche I had was pretty good though.

There a couple of weeks ago. Was never at the beach location, though, so don't know how the menu compares. The menu we had was multiple pages in plastic with 2 items on each page, showing a picture of the dish, and listing its name in multiple languages.

Yeah, that sounds like the same menu. I was at the beach location once, and while it was nice enough, I thought it was somewhat overpriced and just OK. And all the rocks and turtle grass in the water didn't make me want to strip down and run into the water, either. I guess I'm a beach snob, aren't I? :)

I've seen menus from Playa restaurants offer conch ceviche. I've also had conch fritters at Jax on Isla...all breading...where's the conch??? :D
