Last time i was in tulum was over 10 years ago, maybe more. Was no town and just a few youth hostels, where nude sun tanning was the norm. It seems like civilization has come to tulum. I'm coming to playa next week and wanted to come to tulum for a couple days on the beach. is there still a place to get an all over tan??:palmtree:

Yes.... Cabanas Copal, where we stayed last year. See my Tulum Tips report below for more details.

Ten years later, Tulum is no longer the uncharted, uninhabited place where you can run naked for miles without seeing another soul. But there are still plenty of opportunities to get that all-over tan.
Cabanas Copal is among the handful of resorts advertising their beaches as clothing-optional.
But I've never had a problem going topless at resorts that don't advertise themselves as C/O. In fact, at any given beach in Tulum, it seems that roughly 25 percent of the women are swimming or sunning top-free.
Full nudity in these "non-C/O" places seems much less common. But quite often it's just a matter of one person going completely nude and then others follow. (I have been the instigator of this domino effect on a couple of occasions). This has raised eyebrows at places further north, but I have yet to hear any complaints from anyone in Tulum.

I've never seen anyone taking issue with topless or CO sunbathing in Tulum. However, I did see a nude couple (they had been asked by locals to cover up) arrested by the local police on Isla Mujeres last spring. Total nudity is illegal in Mexico.....I imagine they just payed a fine. I have a few local friends who say they are offended by public nudity by visitors, even though it's accepted.....tourist dollars talk.

There was no problem for my husband or I going 'all natural' in and near the biosphere area. We stayed in one of the last places before the national park began and rarely saw more than 6-7 people or couples a day. All but a few ended up taking their suits off as well when they came by us. Nothing like talking a 4 mile walk on the beach with nothing but a sarong in hand!
The owners of our cabanas actually took nude swims early in the mornings and in afternoons. We've been going for the past 5 years and I've actually been going on my own or with traveling companions since about 1996. My favourite place in the world!

I guess, what we all need to take into consideration: Is it a NUDE/total
beach area or not..If not: you can Discerne the amount of nudity..you want to throw out there..Most likely: if someone doesn't CARE about total nudity, they go to a nudist resort...and they don't show it all to the normal tourists and locals at beaches that don't allow it, unless of course they have no manners.. .HMMM that may be why they have NUDIST packages...right? BUT: most people don't mind a small amount of nudity..BUT find those that are more free with putting it out there, totally: wrong and possibly infringing on their FAMILY vacation..We all should try to be somewhat sensitive to the general world, and unless you live in a nudist society, seeing a totally naked human/humans..walking the beach as you sit there with your kids/mom/pop/etc....just doesnt' cut it... want to be free and naked and not offend anyone or get naked? Go to a clothing optional place, or take a long walk on the beach in Tulum away from everyone... Have FUN, and be respectful, to tourists/families and the locals.

I think everyone knows the rules. I saw it all in May. If you need to get naked sitting in a chair on the beach you are probably cool. But if you decide you need to walk around, cover up. I could care less what you wear, and I can explain CO to my 3 year old. But don't put it in my face while I'm ordering my ceviche.

I am with you Doug ~ I don't care what you do, just don't be doing your yoga "downward dog" when I walk out of Titas after a great breakfast. Kinda killed my "I just had a great breakfast on the beach" feeling to I am ready to "barf".

Haha! Too funny you mention Tita Tulum. Last time down I assumed Tita Tulum translated to "Man with towel over his genitals in Tulum".

And why is it the nudists strolling around are always the folks you'd least like to see naked? Not fair!!! :D
