It would be about six plus miles on a very hot jungle road. No, definitely not. The good news is you won't have trouble finding an inexpensive taxi.

Along the beach - it's not that long or that hot if you stop for beer along the way!

Too many rocky outcrops along the Tulum beach to walk non-stop. If i were you I would walk from the ruins along the road to Zakil Kin where you can walk down to the beach and get a cerveza. Then head south on the beach for about a mile where you will have to get out (just before DiamanteK) and get back on the road. At that point you will need to take a taxi because the rocks are treacherous for a little ways. Taxi to maybe Maya Tulum then hit the beach walking south again. That would be a pretty good time I would bet. Plenty of places to stop for a cold one and nice beaches to walk.

Doug's right. I'd never walk it from Las Ranitas. That would take you most of the day, and by the time you get there you'll be too wiped out to actually enjoy the ruins. And all those rocky outcroppings would be tough to navigate.

I think someone did this, from a little further north than Las Ranitas...i wish i could remember which trip report it was... thinking... thinking...

Anyway, I don't think it's a great idea. It'll take a long time and you'll get to the ruins when they are CRAMMED full of people. It really is a long way from LR.....

I just noticed my recommendations are in reverse. You were wanting to go to the ruins.

If your an earliy riser......I would walk the beach North all the way to Maya Tulum, walk out to the road and walk the 1/4 mile to Zamas for Breakfast.

During the walk I would look for a place to have some drinks on the way back......

Then catch a cab the rest of the way to the ruins.

Anything north of Zamas is really not worth trying to walk.

On the return trip, cab it to the "drinks", then walk and stop the rest of the way back.

Jess, I'm certainly not saying you can't do it. 10k is not that far for someone in shape. But, it's not something I would do on vacation...for fun. If you decide to hoof it all the way :running:, bring a big bottle of water. You will need it if the black top jungle road heats up during the middle of the day.

In jessgreen's 2nd post he said he had already made the walk (mostly) yesterday.

It could have been me. I've walked it from Zahra/Copal and wrote about it (a little).
