Our Trip has been a work in progress since we bought our airline tickets. Looks like we might try Cozumel for a couple of days. Who's got that great hotel choice on the beach:beerchug:

Thanks

If you want something similar to Tulum...try the one hotel (Ventanas al Mar) on the east side...no electricity...run by solar. It's located right next to Coconuts bar. Most of the hotels with good beaches are AI.

That would be a good one to try. We've been to Coz a few times (married there actually) but never stay at Ventanas. We did flop on their beach one afternoon. It would require a car rental tho, as there's not much besides Coconuts around. Ok, so maybe Mescalitos to the north, but that'd be a bit of a hike as I recall.

We were married at El Presidente, and stayed again for our 5th a few years back. GAH! I can no longer even afford to drive past the place. Hence we started staying on the mainland, and found Tulum :). el Prez is great, but was destroyed by Wilma and rebuilt again. Each rebuilding adds major $$$ to your stay.

There is a great Coz related board that has lots of tips on places to stay in town, if you are interested in saving some money. www.travelnotes.cc (http://www.tulum.info/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.travelnotes.cc ) is the address.

We've stayed at Fiesta Americana as a non-AI...it's a little ways past El Presidente. Nice place with a man-made beach but good snorkling. Further south are some bigger AI hotels with good beaches and north of town are several hotels with decent beaches...might could do non-AI with some of them. On Coz you just about have to have a car to get around. Taxis are plentiful but expensive especially to the south end hotels or to the east side. Isis is a excellent place to rent a car.

A couple more Coz boards are www.cozumelmycozumel.com (http://www.cozumelmycozumel.com) and www.cozumel.net (http://www.cozumel.net).
