*** Just a note here ~ the format of this forum has changed since these were posted. Below are the new directions for posting a picture. Hope this helps everyone! ***

Take your http addy that you have for the picture, click on the icon below the arrow to the right, it looks like a small picture frame, then you choose "from URL" paste your addy in there for the picture and uncheck the box at the bottom and your picture should post just fine!

Here's how to post photos in the forum:

My way of uploading photos is through www.Photobucket.com (http://www.tulum.info/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.Photobucket.co m)

Create an account, then upload your photos. You don't have to resize them before you upload them or anything. When uploading, Photobucket resizes the photos into 640x480 resolution for use on the web. Don't worry, your originals aren't affected.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/mariussipa/save.jpg

Once your photos are uploaded to Photobucket you'll see thumbnails to each photo you uploaded, along with four fields below the pic that contain what are called URL's. Depending on your need, you would copy a URL and paste it into the body of an email, Instant Message, web page, or in this case, in this forum. Each field tells you it's intended use, and in the case of this forum you would use the 'IMG code'.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/mariussipa/save2.jpg

So, copy the IMG code (right-click and select COPY), and then when you're writing your reply right-click in the body of the reply and select PASTE. The copied URL will appear.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/mariussipa/Untitled-1.jpg

If you want to describe what's in the photo, just write a short description just before or after this PASTED text. Just make sure you don't alter the PASTED text or the link you created won't work. Also, if you delete or remove the photos or even move them anywhere from their original location in your online photo storage site, then the links you inserted in the forum will stop "knowing" where to find the photos and the photos will stop displaying in the forum. The links are "broken". If you do anything to the photos, re-copy the link and paste it in the forum to replace the old links. I know, confusing, but that's how it works.

That's it. Post your message as usual from there and your photo will appear.

Hope this helps y'all.

I just can't figure it out! I have followed the above instructions, I know I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. I am trying to load a profile picture, first I tried from my computer, then I saw this thread and tried that, but it still doesn't work. It shows the picture as if it worked, then when I hit save, it tells me it failed. Any ideas?

HELP!

OK Margo, one step at a time. So you have uploaded your photos to photobucket? And you can see them there correct?

Next you started your post over here in Tulum.info.

Then you click on the "Direct Link" url next to the picture you want to display in photobucket.com and it says "copied".

Come back to your post in tulum.info and click the little icon with the mountain and paste (CTRL V) you link into that blank and you should have it displayed in your post. You can then hit save or keep adding to your post. Hope that helps.

I am thinking your picture is too large - try to resize it in photobucket and then I think it will work. Needs to be "thumbnail" or "avitar" size for your profile picture.

Margoinmexico

Well, here's the deal, what I've done so far....

First, I loaded some pix on Photo bucket.

I copied the IMG

I went back to Tulum.info User CP

I clicked edit profile photo

It walks you through it.

I had to deleat the [IMG] on each side of the address for it to work

It looks like it works. It shows the picture, everything is great. Next time I come back the picture is still there, but then it tells me it fails.

Then when it asks you to save changes I get a new page that says upload failed. One time it did say the photo was too big so I down sized it in Photobucket....

After reading what you all said today, I made it thumbnail size and it still just says upload failed..........

I really do know my way around a computer, I'm not totally stupid, but just not sure why this isn't working!:eek::confused:

Thanks for all of your help!

I just tried it again, someone suggested direct link rather than IMG and it still says upload of file failed, keep in mind, this is after it is showing me that it worked....the picure is there...........eieieieieieiei!

Create an account, then upload your photos....Just to clarify this part, the images are 'uploaded' to webspace somewhere... they need to exist somewhere so that we can reference them in our post. In this tutorial, the images are uploaded to a free account using Photobucket. There are many image hosting solutions.

Once the image is in webspace (on a server somewhere, and we have the address, or URI/URL of the image) we place a reference to the image in the post that your browser understands, and uses to request a copy of the image from the server that hosts your image. The image does not exist within the post, it is only referenced.

An avatar is the image that appears in the postbit (the area around your name that shows post count, location, etc) of each post.

A profile picture is an image that you add to the forum that appears on your member page.

The recently upgraded forum software now includes member image albums. Go to your control panel and you'll see a link to your albums where you can create albums, upload them (they are automatically resized) and you'll even be given the code snippets that makes adding them to your posts very simple.

There is also a link to the Pictures/Albums feature via the QuickLinks drop down menu near the top, on the right.

Enjoy!

Clotn, you need to have your pictures up online with a photo-sharing site, like Shutterfly, Photobucket, Smugmug, etc. Do you have that?

If so, you go to the picture, get the address, come here and paste the address into the box that pops up when you use the little yellow photo icon (the one above your posting box that looks like a postage stamp). When you hit OK after pasting the address in (you'll have to delete the existing http part), it should show up here.

It sounds complicated, but once you get rolling with it, it's easy.

If you can't swing it, let us know which site you're using and someone should be able to help you get the address of the picture in the right size. Different sites have different ways of getting the address.

I would really love to see your pictures of Playa Azul, so if you can't be bothered to do this whole photo-posting thing, you can send me your pictures (send me a PM--private message--and I'll get you my e-mail address) and I'll post them for you.

I'm using photobucket, and following the steps in this thread...

PhyllisB
6th September 2009, 07:06 AM
Ok, I use photobucket too. I think you're either using the wrong code, or you uploaded smaller pictures into your album.

Are you on a Mac? (I am.) I've accidentally uploaded thumbnails to my photobucket account sometimes, and you can't ever make them bigger. With the original photo file, you can adjust the size the way you want it. One way to know if you've uploaded a smaller picture is how big it appears when you're looking at it. For instance: the pics I loaded by mistake all look like they are about 3x3 when I'm looking at that individual picture in my photobucket album. If I've done it correctly and uploaded the right file, it looks about 5x5 or 6x6 on my screen -- at least twice the size.

Another way to tell if you've done it wrong is if you can't adjust the size to make it larger. You can make big pictures smaller, but you can't make small pictures bigger, I don't think.

Anyway, here are a couple of ways to upload from photobucket and to resize big pictures if you want to:

After you log in, that first page has your pictures there. Find the one you want, and move your cursor to it. When you roll your mouse/cursor over the picture, some options should show up, like HTML code and IMG code. Copy and past the IMG code, and that's all there is to it!

If you don't see those codes when you scroll over the picture you want, then you need to change your "share" settings - I can tell you how to do that too if you need to - let me know. Initially, the IMG code (which is what you would use for bulletin boards and forums like this) is set to default at a pretty large size (which is why I think you may have uploaded the wrong picture file).

I'll show you the big size in a second. Some folks like the huge pictures, but some prefer a little bit smaller. If you don't want your picture to take up the whole entire screen, you can click on the picture itself and it'll take you to a page where you can edit it (e.g., not looking through a page with all your pictures in your album on it, but click on one and it'll bring you to a page with just that picture). Scroll over your picture, and some menu options will appear at the top of your picture (not the options at the top of the web page itself): zoom in, edit, resize, rotate, etc. Scroll over the Resize menu, and you can choose the size you want (small, medium, large, etc). Try medium - I think that's the one that's just less than full screen. BUT I'm not sure you can ever go back to Large once you've resized it to Medium - just to warn you in advance. You would have to reload your original photo and start over, I think, if you didn't like it in medium.

You can also copy and past the IMG code directly from this page (where you're looking at the one picture you want). Towards the bottom left of your screen where you see Share, there should be some codes below it - you want the IMG code.

So here's one from my album set to the default for forums/bulletin boards (large):

PhyllisB
6th September 2009, 07:10 AM
Oh, one other thing - with copying and pasting the code from photobucket, you don't need to do anything else from the TI forum. You just paste in that code. You don't need the little icon of the mountain, you don't need to add any additional code. It's already embedded in the code you copied from PB.

So for instance right now your post above has [IMG] showing up before and after your pictures -- makes me wonder if that IMG code was put in there twice?

6th September 2009, 10:03 AM
Thank you, PhyllisB, you answered a lot of my questions! Yes, I am using a mac, and based on what you explained, I'm pretty sure I uploaded them at a smaller size. I don't have the option on photobucket (as far as I can see) to resize them - at least larger. I guess I have to reload them.

One more question so I don't go through this again. If I'm loading from iPhoto to Photobucket, is there a specific setting I need to check to make sure I'm uploading the right size?

Oh, and yes, I figured out what you mean about not having to 'click on the mountain' icon - the image code is enough.

PhyllisB
6th September 2009, 10:09 AM
Yeah, it's funny, I don't know if it's the Mac or iPhoto or the type of camera or what. For some reason your photo files get stored in multiple places!

I'm at my sister in law's place the moment, but I when I get home tonight I can see where I load mine from. I think I go from a finder window into Pictures folder, into my iPhoto library. From there.... hmmm this is straining my memory..... I can't remember the options on the list. I think I upload them from a folder called Originals or something like that. Honestly I think I do it trial by error every time I upload a new batch! I think the other option were Data files. One of them is right and one is wrong, can't remember which off the top of my head! :)

Hey now, that was a specific offer to a specific person because we were all desperate for pics of the new Playa Azul. I am not your photo monkey!

(love you, though!:))

On the posting without using the icon thing, Smugmug lets me do that too, but it ends up linking back to my entire album, indeed all of my albums. So for posting just a specific picture without the link back to the site, I use the icon. I like to pick and choose what people see.

I don't know if it's the same with Photobucket, though.
