Hola from Cyber Akumal!!!!
We arrived yesterday to a regular midwest thunder storm. First like that I have ever encountered down here. Had quality beach time, but our snorkeling was bad, as all that fresh water rain was sitting on top of the salt water and we had horrible cline out in the bay!! Bummer, but the weather was great up until 3PM and then another storm hit. Overcast right now, but not raining.
Not too much else to report......... talk at ya later

I'm with Lazydog. Heck, if it's raining, I expect multiple check-ins during the day!
How are things at ABR? Nice room? Good food? Sorry about the crummy snorkeling, but hopefully it'll all clear up soon.
We're so desperate for rain around here, seems odd that you're having trouble with it down there. There was a sprinkle this afternoon and I practically did a rain dance, then the sun came out five minutes later. :(

Be careful what you wish for folks. Hopefully she doesn't get washed out... I hope this is one of those storms that just fizzles out and doesn't turn into anything!!!!!! The odds are in our favor, right? I hope???

Thunderstorm activity has increased over the Western Caribbean a few hundred miles north of the northeast coast of Honduras. This area has been labeled "Invest 94L" by NHC. This morning's QuikSCAT pass showed a sharp wind shift in the region, but not a closed circulation. Satellite loops show a steady increase in heavy thunderstorm activity, but the cloud pattern has no organization yet. Surface pressures over the entire Western Caribbean, from Cancun to Cuba, to the Cayman Islands, and south and west to Honduras and Belize have shown a large drop over the past two days. It is uncommon for pressures to fall over this large of an area during hurricane season. Wind shear is about 10 knots, and is expected to remain 10 knots or below through Tuesday. The low surface pressures, light wind shear, and warm ocean waters should allow a tropical depression to form by Tuesday at the latest. The Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to investigate the system Monday afternoon.
Steering currents are weak in the Western Caribbean, and any storm that does form may remain for a week over the high-heat content waters of the region. In that case, we can expect a hurricane a week from now. However, some of the models indicate a slow motion northwestward later this week, bringing the system over Belize or Mexico's Yucatan, before it would have a chance to intensify into a hurricane. The GFDL model predicts 94L will hit near Cozumel later this week as a tropical storm, then be forced south-westward deep into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. There is a trough of low pressure swinging across the U.S. later this week that may be strong enough to pull 94L northwards. Western Cuba, the west coast of Florida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas would be at risk in this scenario. The HWRF model is the only model showing this scenario.
In the shorter term, residents of northern Honduras can expect heavy rains beginning Monday. These heavy rains will likely spread to Belize on Tuesday and Mexico's Yucatan coast by Wednesday.

Ohhh, so now we believe the weatherman? I do have to agree with Phyllis...stop providing mini(mex) trip reports and go out and experience foods, drink, and activities so that you'll have a KICK A$$ report to share in a few weeks!! :D

I actually enjoy a few storms on my trips. It's not like you didn't go there for the water anyway!! Enjoy kicking back. Hope you get more clarity for snorkeling. Have fun!

Where did you snorkel/dive? Half Moon Bay in Akumal? Tulum?

Minnie's up in Akumal this part of her trip. Not much snorkeling in Tulum, water's too rough, the reef's too far out. Akumal is apparently the joint for snorkeling!
A 5' 'cuda would make my heart jump a little, even though I know it's safe.

That's why we chose Akumal for our stay - soon, very soon! Minnie thanks for the updates. Weather and all!
We were in La Manzanilla (2 hrs. south of PV) and Hurricane Henriette was off the coast hitting the local villages as a tropical storm. It was incredible and an experience that I don't regret. I have some amazing pictures......and most of all we still had a good time. Hubby, me, my brother and my sister-in-law. One day we spent in the condo with an amazing stormy view and cooked up a great meal, made jewelry and logged onto the internet with friends and family back home. Watching the locals deal with the storm made me feel very humbled - they are strong, enduring people. Every experience in life is of value......even when we don't know it is.
Keep having fun! I am glad that your snorkeling was so great - turtles galore, how lucky you are!
